Probably corrupted some essential file. Clean installing windows 10 might be the only way.
Please Help - Tech Experts
Hey Dimers, Please Help 🙏🏻
Problem:- Yesterday i was creating Windows 10 Bootable Pendrive using Win10ISO. It got created successfully. I decided to test it by Booting my laptop (Win 7 Ultimate) with it to test whether it was created rightly or not. I just booted with it and proceeded to setup untill the "Where do you want to install windows (select drive and click Next) ??" Screen. I selected the drive and clicked next. A pop-up came that "Your Installed Win7 files, settings etc. will be saved in a new folder Windows.old." Click OK. (I thought i can proceed to one more screen and exit after that, since it was showing "Next" button instead of "Install" button) but just after clicking OK it started Win 10 installation, immediately i cancelled the installation within less than 10 seconds. The installation got cancelled immediately and message came "Installation has been cancelled, any changes to windows will not be saved" and setup got hanged with ( ⏳) symbol. When it didn't respond even after 4-5 minutes then i removed Win 10 Bootable Pendrive and then it came back to first screen of installation setup. I exited the setup and Laptop started with ESC startup screen, but just after that it is not booting like Old Win 7. Instead it is showing "Windows is loading files" and after that shows "Windows Startup Repair" window. And even it is not getting succeeded and asking me to just shutdown or restart again and again.
Please Help

Your boot partition might have got corrupted. Try repairing MBR or GPT
A pop-up came that "Your Installed Win7 files, settings etc. will be saved in a new folder Windows.old."
If installer has moved your old windows 7 files to this "windows.old" folder then you need to move everything inside this folder back to C drive. You will need a live linux usb to see what exactly is the current situation of your C drive before doing anything else. Use rufus & ubuntu iso to create a live linux usb & boot from it. Once booted do not repeat the same mistake as you will see 2 options: "Try ubuntu" & "install ubuntu". Select "Try Ubuntu" which will load ubuntu install from usb using which you can browse your hdd/ssd to see its current situation. Post a screenshot here by clicking pic from mobile (use imgur to upload pic & post the imgur link here).
Above is just first step in a long process. Assuming win 10 installer didn't delete anything critical, you might be able to repair the win 7 installation. However there is a good chance some or many of your installed software on win 7 might not work & require reinstall from scratch.
For future reference, never experiment with windows/OS without thoroughly researching first especially nowadays when almost everything has a youtube video uploaded for it. Learn to use image backup software like macrium reflect free or aomei backupper (again, experiment/learn on a secondary pc/secondary drive not your main pc/main drive having windows install. For extra precaution just physically disconnect your primary drive while experimenting on secondary drive in pc). Bookmark websites like these for reference:

If you had select "custom install" then you would know that it is not possible to proceed without formatting the C drive first at which point you would have stopped as I am assuming you know what formatting C drive means. You instead chose the simpler option which directly start installing windows in the C drive in which there is another windows version installed.
Also, when the pop-up came that "Your Installed Win7 files, settings etc. will be saved in a new folder Windows.old." Click OK." then it literally means that if you click "OK" then whatever msg is showing in pop-up will happen on next step which in turn means that next step will start new windows installation because once the old installed windows files are moved then installing a new windows is must to boot the system.
Bhai anything can be done with Command Prompt to fix ?? Since i am able to access all the "Windows Startup Repair" Options and tried 1) Startup Repair 2) System Restore these two options but no success. Three more options are 3)System Image Recovery 4) Windows memory diagnostic 5) Command Prompt.
Even i am able to see the contents of C drive in command prompt since i have little bit knowledge of DOS learnt long back ago. (Using DIR command).
Aap drive select kake next select karke bich me installation roj die. Bhai fresh installation chahiye
Never ever stop any software installation in between, it will most probably lead to corrupted files..especially if it is an operating system. You should've chosen a different partition to be on the safer side. That way, your main OS on C would've been intact.
So I too would suggest a fresh installation on Windows. If you had important data on C, then install windows on a different partition, but that partition too shouldn't have any important data since it'll all be formatted.
Else, try Ubuntu or any other OS which can be directly booted from a pen drive to transfer data between partitions. Or remove your hard disk and connect it to another system using a USB connector and then manually look for your data in it (best option in my opinion).
Bhai is Windows can't be booted directly from Pendrive same as you said for UBUNTU. ??
Fresh installation is the best solution,
You can still make Win 7 Bootable again, and try the repair Win 7 option there. It's 50-50.
Do you have any important files on the system?
If yes then boot from usb go to repair option. Then open the command prompt and manually copy data from there to wherever you want.
Use robocopy to copy the files.
If you don't know robocopy then refer it here
Once you made a backup then you can just reinstall windows from bootable USB
If you don't want to retain any files then just boot from usb and wipe the partition and reinstall windows.
like another person said u have to recover boot files with fixmbr command u'll find step by step details here : https://www.howtogeek.com/32523/how-to-manually...
It appears that your Windows 7 installation has been corrupted after attempting to install Windows 10 from the bootable USB drive and canceling the process midway. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:
- Create a Windows 7 System Repair Disc on a working computer if you don't have one already.
- Boot your laptop using the System Repair Disc.
- Select "Startup Repair" from the options to attempt fixing any startup issues.
If Startup Repair doesn't work, try the next option.
- Boot your laptop using the Windows 7 installation media (DVD or USB drive).
- When prompted, press any key to boot from the installation media.
- Select your language preferences and click "Next".
- Click "Repair your computer" at the bottom left.
- Select "Command Prompt" from the System Recovery Options menu.
-
In the Command Prompt, type the following commands and press Enter after each:
text
bootrec /fixmbr bootrec /fixboot bootrec /rebuildbcd

- Close the Command Prompt and select "Continue" to complete the repair process.
If the above steps don't resolve the issue, you may need to perform a clean install of Windows 7 by deleting all partitions and creating new ones during the installation process.
- Make sure to create a backup of your important data before attempting any of these steps, as they may result in data loss.
- If you have a Windows 7 product key, you can use it to activate the clean install of Windows 7.
- If the issue persists, it's possible that the Windows 7 installation has been severely corrupted, and you may need to consider upgrading to Windows 10 or reinstalling Windows 7 from scratch.
Remember to always create a backup of your data before attempting any major system changes or reinstallations.
Have you tried System restore first?
Actually this is a great opportunity to dump Windows and switch to Ubuntu. win 7 is long depreciated anyway.
From all above suggestions, it seems that the Best Option to Solve this Problem will be a "Clean and Fresh Installation" (#Lesson_Learnt).
Since i dont have any too much important data (Except One File) in C drive, so i am thinking to wipe and format the C Drive to perform a clean and fresh install of windows because if by doing any other thing if i messed up with BIOS and beacme unable to boot via USB(which i am able for now) then i would have no options left except to go to repair shop.
But before that i want to get that (One File) from Hard Disk. AFAIR i have two copy of it, One on Desktop and One in E Drive. This file is Win7UltimateISO that is currently installed on my laptop. I want this file to perform "Clean and Fresh Installation of Win 7".
Can you guys help me to get this file copy to my Pendrive using command prompt. ??
And is it possible to make it Win 7 Bootable Pendrive by using the same file with command prompt itself ??
Just powered on Laptop and Taken some screenshots for reference.
Screen 1) Press ESC to pause startup (Startup Screen)
Screen 2) Black Screen with "Windows is loading Files"

@guest_999 @TruthSeeker Finally i found this file "Win 7 Ultimate.iso" in windows.old folder. How to copy it to my Pendrive. ?? Can u help me to copy this file to my Pendrive. ?? I am unable to copy it. Please Help.

Since, Now i have recovered my already installed Win7UltimateISO successfully and have Windows 7 Installation USB ready as backup plan to do Clean and Fresh Installation if anything goes wrong.
So i tried to fix my system by suggestions above given by Dimers. Here's what happened next :-
1) Firstly i tried @Jarvis.-. suggestion provided by his HowToGeek link. First time without Win7 bootable USB , Second time with Win7 bootable USB. Every command in that link gave "The operation has been completed successfully" message but Problem was intact.
2) Secondly i tried @roXtar007 suggestion exactly same as he provided as it was same as @Jarvis.-. link with just one more command (bootrec /rebuildbcd). Just after typing this command and pressing Enter, it asked Yes/No/All which @roXtar007 forgot to mention. So i did it on my own and typed Yes(Y) and Pressed Enter. Received same message "The operation has been completed successfully". Then exited the command prompt, exited the Win7 installation setup as he said to close, restart and check after executing commands. This time i manually choosen boot options (ESC > F8(Boot Options) > Hard Drive (although it is default)) this time i got to go to something new screen (Thanks to the magic of bootrec /rebuildbcd). [image 1 attached]
The screen title is Windows Boot Manager. It showed two option for OS to select
1) Windows 7 2) Windows 7 Ultimate
I was like, why there are two. So i first selected 1) and pressed Enter- It restarted with same screen "Windows is loading files" then Startup Repair and System Recovery Options same as my Thread problem.
Again i restarted my system, this time gone with 2) Windows 7 Ultimate - Wow! This time it booted and started successfully with "Starting Windows" then "Welcome" but my happiness was not for long time (it seems problems are desperately finding me).
Now i am stucked with a new problem - I am stucked at "Windows LogOn" screen and after Entering my password, what is showing, i am attaching in screenshot. [image 2]
