My father has an old Fujitsu laptop and gradually a lot of keys have stopped working. Constant updates have also made it lag horribly. He only uses the laptop for maybe an hour a day for basic browsing and nothing else.

A local trusted technician suggested downgrading Windows 10 to Win 7 and replacing the keyboard.

Does it make sense to downgrade windows, maybe add a stick of RAM to speed it up and replace keyboard given how less the laptop is used? He says he does not want to spend a few thousands on getting a new laptop since the phone takes care of all his needs.

Are laptop keyboards model specific? I would imagine Fujitsu replacements are expensive. Can a cheap one be used as replacement?

Chime in with your opinions. Any suggestion and help is greatly appreciated! 👍🏼

just upgrade ram to min 8GB and get a 256 gb ssd minimum, it will solve most problems

Windows 10 or 11 would work

Reg Keyboard it can be tricky, if your technician is able to find 2nd hand key board well and good, i dont think first copies of fujitsu laptop would be avaiable, keyboards are model specific

Other option is just connect an external keyboard and mouse

Might have to get external kb if replacement cant be found or is too expensive.

You can buy a wireless keyboard / combo if it's feasible.

Try removing all the bloatwares, unnecessary softwares and replace resource consuming Antivirus. Consider installing Linux / downgrade to Windows 7 (it's not safe though), if that doesn't work. Do keep in mind that Windows 7 is no longer supported by the majority of browsers.

I've already removed all bloatware and turned off all unnecessary windows services to reduce RAM consumption. Was thinking about removing Windows Defender too. He is not familiar with Linux so that's out of question. Downgrading to Win7 might be the only option.

Was looking at a basic USB kb too since he uses the laptop only on his desk.
