You don't need to do prime subscription for Rs 99. It's a common scam by jio store agents.

The Jio store personnel had mentioned the same back in late 2021. If one opted for Rs 239 pack or higher then Rs 99 for Prime subscription won't be levied separately. Jio umbrella guys were offering Rs 239 recharge for free (edit: not free in case of a new connection, Rs 150 or so) and so I didn't bother with Jio store anymore. MNP to Jio is still free of cost if one can get hold of the umbrella guys. Ported 2 more nos. for free last week or so. IIRC the Prime subscription had been withdrawn sometime back.

this is true but if you go to local shop they may give it in less as they get activation commission and targets

I too had recently ordered a Jio SIM and the agent asked us to do at least the lowest value recharge (data + voice) to activate the SIM..and took some 200-300 rs as his fee (I don't remember the exact figure).  Upon asking, he said it was not for the SIM but for the delivery charges/fee. Since the amount was small and he had given pretty decent customer service, we didn't argue much. But yeah, this does happen..

Kindly explain. So, 200-300 was  delivery charges. And on the top of that, you have to recharge it by yourself? So extra 239 for recharge?

In My Jio app they show that sim delivery is free. Ideally you should be only charged 239 for the FRC.

Umbrella Man is selling the SIM at just 150.

Please don't pay him 99. There is nothing like prime now. You automatically become prime member as soon as you will do your first recharge

He is just looting. Just do the first recharge from my Jio app

99 prime mandatory for new customer 149 plan

Go for 239 plan to avoid these charges

⚠️misinformation⚠️

Even if one goes for the lowest FRC, 'prime' is not legally compulsory.

I've booked Sim through MyJioApp, Agent came and said 239 is minimum for unlimited 5G and charged 99 Additional for "JioPrime", I said I don't want JioPrime, he stated its "Mandatory" I said show me where it said its mandatory, he said "we" can't write everything online else it will be too much, what a bunch of crap, pretty sure it was a SCAM, had to argue with him but his breath stank 🤢🤢🤢  so I eventually paid him 99 Rupees extra for JioPrime Nothing 😡 , and he took the payment through his own Private PhonePay UPI ID when I said I will be paying online, unlike when I booked JioFiber I paid through official Jio Website which I've been received by SMS on registered number, so clear sign of scam. Also the guy took my phone for OTP and while taking OTP he rated himself 5 Stars on feedback link that was sent to my number by Jio.

JioFiber installation and delivery was Smooth and Seamless, can't say the same for Jio Sim delivery.

So all I have to do is
not brush/clean my teeth/mouth for a week or so
eat garlic, onions 30 minutes prior to meeting you in-person
and you would give me few hundred bucks or couple of thousand rupees, right?

You.. are an angel!😇

My experience was similar to ISCREAM. I booked through the app, which said free delivery. The agent arrived, did the KYC procedure, and asked for 300 rupees, either via cash or UPI. I asked if I could choose a plan I wanted, and he said I could choose that after the current plan, 239Rs, expires in 28 days. He guided me to rate 5 stars on the feedback link and to press 1 on an IVR call about the sim. I was pretty happy to get the SIM, so I didn't bother with asking anything further.

Later that evening, I searched online for the minimum recharge plan required for activation and stumbled upon this thread. Only after reading through the replies did I realize it was not normal. So, while looking through the MyJio app, I came across the feedback option and left my experience, with limited characters, that I was upset for not being able to choose the plan I wanted, and the agent has already recharged, and I didn't know if it was normal or not.

24 hours later

My phone kept ringing, both the old number and the new number. It was the agent. He was upset because he got a screenshot of my feedback (he assumed it was a Google review) from the top, and he was asking why I hadn't asked him, why did I leave a review, and asking me to leave another one. He wasn't listening and kept speaking frenziedly, "Why haven't I asked him?" repeatedly. Since he wasn't listening, I just cut the call.

End of story.

It's upsetting that the feedback screenshot was delivered to his hand, as he has both the numbers and my address.

So for people who are upset with their experience, know that the feedback does reach the management and eventually the agent.
If you don't care about the agent's reaction, then just leave your feedback on my Jio app.
If you do care and don't want to overpay, as others said, approach the umbrella guy.

I had a booked a porting + new jio sim delivery for my father, the agent came yesterday and did the entire procedure but at the end he asked for money at which my father got angry cus he and I both were told that we would have to pay nothing. The agent said this was for the first recharge and the porting process was still free, my father yelled at him and said why didn't he mention all this before and all. They argued for some time and my father told me he will only pay when 3 days later the sim is activated and the recharge is working. I don't know if he was asking for money for himself or not cus some people said u actually don't have to pay for anything.

The 'scheme' offered by local sales teams of operators has some formal, informal 'targets'.

It could be as less as 50-60 in a month, but 'targets' they are.

The 28 days pack can only be given complimentary/ for free by those retailers or agents who were offered the 'scheme' by the sales/ promotion team of the operator in that city/ town
and the retailer/ agent accepting it.

MNP, by itself, does not cost anything and is free.
But the 'first recharge coupon' (FRC) .. plan activation is an entirely different thing than MNP.

We sometimes have fun with BSNL, MTNL. We port and number is officially on BSNL. But we do not do ANY recharge, if number is a spare number. Then after 30-40 days.. do some FRC and by the end of it.. 90 days are over.. so port it for 28 days free in Jio or others (after finding an agent or shop who gives the freebie.)
