Someone I know had to take his 6-month-old two-wheeler to the authorized service center from where he purchased the vehicle for repairs after an accident. Since his insurance was purchased from outside, he was initially asked to pay ₹5,000 so they could order the parts and start the repair. After paying this deposit amount and completing the repairs, he was informed that he would need to pay the balance of the bill only after the vehicle will be handed over to him. When he inquired about the validity of his Comprehensive insurance, they said it would take time for the claims to be processed and the money to arrive, and the money would be sent to an account, although it was not clear at that time, whether it was to the vehicle owners account or the dealers account. In total, he ended up having to pay ₹22,000 to the dealer for the repairs so he could continue riding to work on his two-wheeler.

Not sure what happened after.

I still haven’t met anyone who purchased a comprehensive motor insurance policy from outside the dealer and had their own damage claims processed without hassle.
