Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and TikTok will have to reveal users’ identities if Indian government agencies ask them to, according to the country’s controversial new rules for social media companies and messaging apps expected to be published later this month. The requirement comes as governments around the world are trying to hold social media companies more accountable for the content that circulates on their platforms, whether it’s fake news, child porn, racist invective or terrorism-related content. India’s new guidelines go further than most other countries’ by requiring blanket cooperation with government inquiries, no warrant or judicial order required.

Child porn , terrorism etc can only be controlled in this way. Otherwise people will say what intelligence agencies were doing after any big incident.
Only incompetent agencies use this excuse,do you think Pakistan’s ISI uses social media for its planning or pedophiles uses unencrypted normal websites.
This is good. Many pages are running on religion. They need to be taken down
but if those pages are running by ruling parties
I am happy with this news. It will create fear among stupid people who just run pages for hatred
Oops!
IT cell walon ki to rozi roti chhin gayee..
koi khud ke paer pai khulhadi nahi maarta
they will not harm their own cell its for other who spread fact news instead of fake news
On one hand I am happy for such laws ,because it will bring accountability to users who share fake news and indulge in fear mongering or other illegal activities like terrorism and child p**n.
On the other hand I am afraid how the stupid politicians will use this as a weapon against common populace. So we should welcome these laws but also advocate for stronger measures where just because someone doesn’t like or is hurt by what you say they cannot throw you in jail. Limits needs to be established. Like someone said critiquing government should be acceptable, but using mc bc etc are to be punished. You don’t have the rights to abuse someone like that.
@Simbha3
Also stronger words like judiciary being sold out etc undermines the Constitution and the institution. If supporters of current government say courts were sold out to previous government and all judgements given before becomes void/corrupted then will you accept it ? where will it stop then? Just because of your personal hate don’t undermine the country’s premier institutions.
There is a definite threat to privacy but, the intentions are positive and would help security agencies in tackling down those with malicious intentions like those manufacturing riots and communal disharmony.
The recent post-CAA riots in UP/Delhi were all coordinated through WhatsApp groups and many members of terror sympathiser PFI were involved in it. India is a country, where people are lynched in the name of religion, some are even killed for mocking religious beliefs/figures (Kamlesh Tiwari) and in most of these cases the resentment or anger against them is manufactured largely through some less-factual-more-inciteful WhatsApp forwards or SM posts. It would be an achievement if the security agencies uses the new regulations with utmost sincerity and without any bias.
Anonymity should be respected and encouraged in any political discourse, provided the people using them do not abuse the privilege. Since, govt authorities and security agencies aren’t as quick and effective as those in the first world countries, in combating any potential threat caused by an unruly mob. It is thus a necessity that regulations like these should be enforced for the well being of all. Indians (in general) need to transform themselves first in order to enjoy the privileges offered in a democracy. We have a long road ahead of us and we must tread very carefully.
First world countries only started promoting spying on their own people, biggest contribution of communism to contemporary world history
This law will be used selectively against political opponents only.
Welcome to 21st century Nazi rule!
Never in my wildest nightmare had I thought I’ll be living in a fascist gunda raj.
I think right now we can’t say it is similar to Nazi rule.
Because some parties which are not in power may be creating such situation to prove that current govt is bad. and India is such country any one can create rioting like situation just by creating small issue related to Language or Religion.
Trump is always says America/American First. That doesn’t mean hi though are related to Nazi.
Many European countries started facing issue related to religion because of too much liberty.
Now many people started asking for implementation of Sharia Law in these Countries.
there must be judicial supervision.
can not trust govt agencies alone.
Judicial system is already sold to govt.
