It's better to redeem 3k points at once ..as hdfc has started redemption charges of 50₹ per redemption...
Btw redemption can be done using net banking or in HDFC app itself

I think, they are doing it since long time, it is just to track if someone achieved that milestone.
Milestone benefits (usually gift vouchers) are sent via emails.
