It’s totally safe, they are called generic medicines. But online websites do not allow other medicines unless the doctor has mentioned the sale name on the prescription.

You can search for the generic medicines and ask your nearby pharmacy for that particular generic brand.

All that users could see is the same salt name. But there are so many factors involved in the process of drug making.

Eg: formula on paper>Raw material purchase>Hire employees>Manufacturing>Quality testing>Marketing>Storing and Transport>Finally reaching Consumer.

Corruption can happen at any step. No one can guarantee the safety. This is where Brand value comes into picture. Even then there are instances where reputed pharma companies had to pay heavy compensations and penalties for faulty medicines.

depends on company also and how peoperly they follow GMP.

for India we luckily fought and won in the WTO, to have have process patents instead of product patents.
but in the west, big pharma use the shady practice of “evergreening” a cash-cow.
(they tweak the composition slughtly or add a new molecule to get a new patent)

but here, different generics manufacturers/marketing companies can (copy) make the same drugs using different steps (proceas).

if GMP are followed and composition and delivery mechanism of the dosage is the same as intended, it should be safe for your bow granparents.

on the face of it, that discussion is okay.

but from point of view of medicine or pharmacy there are A LOT of gaps and core fallacies, assumptions there.

No it’s not always safe..for my mother , 1 month back sugar medicine changed from galvusmet 50/850 to torglip 50/850..
sugar level in fasting increased from 110 earlier to 240…and random to around 450, fingers also got swelled..again changed the medicine back to galvusnet, got instant relief within 2 days
so changing the medicine didnt worked for me even if salt composition was same
She does exercise more than me and many. Never eats Sweet and other Sweet things..

If patient is critical/older, I prefer medicine Manufactured by reputed company, I even dont by medicine marketed by reputed company. And they dont cost much. For others everything is okay.

Last month’s my mother was adviced 4 different medicine by an orthopedic doctor. All four were of same brand, quiet uncommon. It was lesser known brand. I just returned all the medicine and thrown the prescription to in-house pharmacist.

The problem is pateint don’t go to honest Doctor. This medical line is most crooked of all the trades

Any strip costing rs 100 and above look out for generic.

local chemist’s have them so try 2-4 doses and see if there is a difference. If not, goto generic Whole seller where the difference in price is actual 75%.
Example :
Blood pressure 10 tabs strip
branded ₹135
Generic at local meds shop ₹110
Generic at online site ₹100
Generic at whole seller ₹45

That’s true for adult diapers too.

Shop owners need to pay rent and salaries so they make big money on generics. Funny part is when I confront the shop owner as why are you charging me full for generic by the inflated mrp. They say its branded.

On further confrontation gives a 20% discount. But it’s still 2 times my price at the whole seller.

There are many meds where branded are better. So it’s not blanket go for genetics slogan.

If any one on this forum has a kid with Cerebral Palsy would know a Baclofin molecule tablet help in reducing muscle tightness and assists in physio therapy.

Sun pharm liofen 10mg strip of 10 tabs cost ₹112

Generic lobac 10mg 10 strips of 10 tablets each Rs 350. So 35 per strip.

Same results but yearly savings of ₹2900
