lost ₹5299 in PNB

I had an inactive account in PNB which was opened in 2017.. but I am not maintaining any balance in that ac since 2020.. today one guy  sent ₹10000 to that ac..but I am unable to transfer that amount to some other saving ac not more than ₹4700.. so I am assuming the charges ₹5300 for non maintenance of min balance . Is it legal to debit this much amount in an inactive account(zero balance only maintained)  How to proceed with this?  Any way to recover the amount?

If it's zero balance account then there should be no charges..! Surprising issue

It's not zero balance account.. I used to get these msgs for every quarter.

Dear Customer, Average Balance in your account XXXXXXXX00014693 is below minimum level. Please build up required average balance to avoid levy of charges.

Even if there are charges that should not be 5300. Contact bank.

Just now googled to know the non maintenance charges for PNB.. it's written as ₹400 per quarter...so ₹1600 for year . So it's seems like they marked the lien for 4 years.. approx ₹5400

When the savings account doesn't have sufficient balance  to debit any charges .. that account should be closed?.. is this the RBI norms? Any light on this? @guest_999 @pingpong @getready

Your account may not be a zero balance account or they converted it to regular savings account. I was charged some 800 rupees for non-maintanance of 3000 balance in PNB regular savings account for 2 quarter i guess the same case is with you.

PNB customer care is useless but only they can help you out if you're out of your branch's city ... the only logical explanation I see is, they've levied non-maintenance charges on your account plus it's dormant.

So, probably you'll have to activate your account again and try to fight with them for non-maintenance of charges. But chances are, you'll have to pay.

I maintain Rs. 2k in my PNB Savings A/C without fail. Please keep checking this on a monthly basis for all your savings account. Peace of mind should be above all.

Long back in Oct/2016 I complained to BoM for deducting non-maintenance charges 10 months finally they reversed around 2K, some RBI guideline is there which says after 3 months a/c should be suspended and no more charges

I don't have more info as of now take google help

It seems they have put that amount on lein hence you are not able to transfer but still can see in bal. If you have net banking access check there.

Something seriously wrong, talking to the branch manager could help... but I guess if you get a cooperative employee at the nearest branch, he may also lookup the real issue/charge/problem for you...

Don't worry, approach the PNB bank manager of your branch. They will redirect you to the concerned person. It could be some sort of security measure.

Can you imagine a savings account being inactive for four years, and then suddenly, someone transfers a certain amount and withdraws it at the same time? That is really suspicious activity.😱😄

Authentic by book: Banks can't charge you MAB charges after account balance reaches ZERO (can't be negetive balance) BUT BUT BUT any other charges  for example Debit card charges +gst could be debited (even in negetive balance) till you revive or permanently close account. So it is that simple.

That haven't debited the charges.. Still it's showing as available balance only.. But instead of marking lien.. they marked this balance can't be transferred or withdrawal by anyway.. Even the BM can't do much..
