I am getting messages daily about RuPay NCMC card. I thought I should make a separate post about RuPay NCMC Transit Card.
Any idea by when Lucknow Metro will have this facility?
Last year December, 2022 news -
2 firms submitted proposals to re-engineer the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system for Lucknow Metro Phase 1 from a closed-loop to an open-loop system.
The new system will be an end-to-end Open loop system that supports EMV (RuPay/Master/Visa) cards, National Common Mobility Cards (NCMC), and QR code-based ticketing.
1) Aurionpro Solutions
2) Paytm Payments Bank Limited
The scope of the tender is the Design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the AFC system by Re-Engineering the existing Lucknow Metro closed loop system to implement Open Loop EMV NCMC card and QR Code ticketing.
The bids have been sent out for technical review, which might take a few months. After that, the financial bids of the technically qualifying bidders will next be opened to disclose the lowest bidder, who is most likely to be the contractor.
i dont think this will ever be implemented in kolkata metro...knowing how lethargic they are
Kolkata Metro already release a tender for NCMC.
Last year December, 2022 news -
WBTC (West Bengal Transport Corporation) will soon introduce the 'one nation-one card', a National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) which can be used across modes of transport throughout the country in buses, suburban trains, Metros, ferries and trams to facilitate seamless movement of passengers from one mode to other, without people requiring to queue up.
But, for now, work is in progress to build capacity for North Bengal and South Bengal Transport Corporations so that the NCMC can be introduced without a hitch. A Mumbai-based mobility expert group is advising the state for proper implementation of NCMC across modes.
They will also supply the transport department with 3,000 electronic ticketing machines where these smear cards can be swiped for deducting fare, said a transport department officer.
The prepaid mobility card will cost Rs 500. The card can be re-charged anywhere, said a transport department officer. Already, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu have introduced the NCMC. Currently, WBTC has a smart mobility card, which will be integrated with the NCMC portal.
"We have had talks with the Metro authorities. However, Metro has to change its electronic smart gate to comply with the NCMC. Till then, we are trying to use the NCMC across other modes.
We have already set up smart gates at every jetty. Gradually, all private buses will be brought under the system," said the officer. Once the NCMC is introduced, commuters won't need to stand in queues for tickets.
Kolkata Metro is NOT under West Bengal Transport Corporation. It is a department of the Indian Railways.
So it's beneficial if travelling by metro frequently?
I read here on some post, someone said it has many problems.
NCMC is supposed to work on all mediums of transport across INDIA. So one can travel with one card across INDIA. But sadly the implementation is very slow. It has started working hardly in few metros .
Why taking so much time ?
Simple answer - It takes time and requires a lot of money.
Pls help me
I have loaded Rs 50 to my PNB NCMC Rupay Prepaid cum debit card. But always amount is debit from my saving account instead of wallet. Pls can anyone help in this
Which Metro ?
First you need to activate your NCMC wallet and verify your NCMC Wallet balance through Metro staff.
Review of SBI Mumbai Metro card. Using it since past 6 months whenever I go to office.
The card is simple and easy to use. I have used it only for Mumbai metro journey so far but it should work wherever NCMC card is accepted. Easy to recharge as well. Recharge can be done on counter or online. I usually do it from the counter itself as there is hardly any queue and pay using my credit card. If we do online recharge then at the metro counter there is a device where we need to update the balance so I prefer offline recharge at counter. Recently read that now paytm ncmc card is live too
Genuinely curious what's the rationale behind issuing yet another card to load and use can't they just implement tap and pay function of regular debit cards,
in few countries that I've been if they have card tap and pay machine it did not matter what bank credit/debit card is used it even accepts Indian cards
Tap & Pay is a card network feature. Each tap sends data to the network (visa/mc/rupay) & the bank to approve the transaction for security. Both also take a percentage of commission.
The NCMC card wallet feature is limited to NPCI or some other entity which will handle this wallet balance separately & make it a direct debit if there's balance in the wallet instead of having to approve the transaction with the card network. This won't charge the commission, that's why it's essential to have a separate wallet because Visa or MC don't need this data or approval.
Approval takes a few seconds whereas the wallet is quick because of data with a single entity.
Also, tap & pay works in a single flow, like you simply paying after shopping once whereas the wallet has a dual flow. You tap in metros to enter but the actual payment is deducted when you exit based on your distance. The cards' tap 'n pay feature doesn't have that ability / a unique identity to remember your details upon entering & complete the flow after the exit to calculate the distance. That'll take too much time to process your identity, take approval from network & bank & approve the transaction.
The wallet has a unique ID & since all the data is handled by a single entity, it's quick.
Are there any better offers or discounts on these ncmc cards over current Delhi Metro (DMRC) smartcards which are there since many years now?
Can NCMC be used for BEST chalo Pass for students?
RuPay NCMC feature from Bank Of Baroda RuPay Select Debit Card being used at BEST Bus (Chalo) in Mumbai -
I have the SBI Mumbai1 NCMC prepaid card. Overall, I like the 5% cashback on all metro rides and works for BEST(public bus transportation) too.
Some minor cons:
- The card has be touched flat for 2 secs at the entry/exit gates (maybe because chip range is very small), if you try to tap and go, it doesn't register.
- There are no merchant partner offers, at launch they advertised a lot but even kiosks/ QSR's in metro station premises, the card isn't supported much.
You can use for all normal RuPay card offers here - https://www.rupay.co.in/rupay-...rs
I dnt remember who but someone ask Paytm Transit wallet RuPay card give seprate wallet option for NCMC balance or not, so here Paytm Transit wallet RuPay card give seprate wallet for NCMC balance -
Now the RuPay NCMC-enabled key chain is also supported to use metro stations, shopping malls and other contactless-enabled POS machines. Well done Omnicard app.
Got the Paytm NCMC transit card. Using it in Delhi Metro. Cost is Rs. 250. 100 Rs. you get in transit balance and 100 Rs. you get in main wallet as cashback after 2 days. So, Card cost is 50 Rs.
It is linked to your paytm account. You can recharge on the app but you have to activate the balance at Metro station.
Also anyone using BOB rupay platinum cards in delhi metro ? does it work well and how to reacharge it ?
Pune Metro offers 10% discount on ticket prices for all One Pune Card holders.
Here one person share this info on twitter - I got my Pune Metro prepaid card today, powered by HDFC Bank. Very smooth experience, took 5 mins at the station. But you have to fill an online form with Aadhar and PAN and the name has to match name on PAN. If you somehow miss the exit gate tap, you get charged by the hour.

One Pune Card
I was lucky enough to get my hands on the Pune Metro Card.
It is a pre-paid card co-branded with HDFC Bank and uses the RuPay (Indian Payments) framework.
As far as I know, this can be used across all metro and bus services in India.
My experience getting the card was pretty smooth.
Here's what you can do:
•Go to any functional metro station in Pune and ask for the One Pune Card kiosk. There will be a QR code which links back to HDFC Bank application form.
(Alternatively, you can apply directly through the HDFC Bank portal).
•Fill that out with accurate details that match your PAN card.
•CRN request will be generated.
•Show this number to the official at the kiosk.
•Complete OTP and other formalities.
•Top-up with the desired amount.
Start using the card
I believe the card is free for the first 5000 users. Others will have to pay ₹150+18% tax to get this card.
Bonus?
Pune Metro offers 10% discount on ticket prices for all One Pune Card holders. (I don't know how long this offer will last.)
Have I used it for other retail payments?
Not yet, will use and update soon.
P.S: The card looks super cool
Also, I have written this post in public interest; and to support the use of public transportation.

Is there any ncmc recharge available via bbps?
Few other banks also have an option through net banking or mobile banking app.
Note - first time NCMC wallet activation and after load money, you need to visit Metro or bus counter to tap and activate your balance.
