In a strong bid to end open defecation and littering, Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi said that free supply of rice would be stopped to villages which are unable to prove they are indeed open defecation free and free of garbage.
Bedi took to Twitter to announce that the local administration would now be required to provide her with a certificate proving that villages are free from open defacation and garbage before free supply of rice is provided. She has also reportedly given a four-week ultimatum till May 31.
Stating that free rice reaches to more than half the population in the Union Territory, Bedi said that villages across Puducherry must prove that open defacation has ended and that the villages are ‘free of strewn garbage and plastic.’
While there were few who appreciated her efforts to clean Puducherry villages, many who replied to her tweet were extremely critical. “Clubbing the two unwise. Hygiene and hunger cannot go together,” wrote a netizen. “Can’t afford rice but will now have to build toilet? Where is the logic in that?” wrote another.

How the hell can that * pass orders like that? Does she have official authority to do so?
hope someday delhites will be also penalized for littering .. living a day in delhi is equivalent to smoking 50 cigarettes in a day (research shows this) .
MCD , after last elections woke up and sending dumping vehicles daily to pick wastage from homes , but still no proper way to eliminate that waste at end stage . (for more info check satyamev jayte show and some reports)
if a Lt Governor make rule on cleaning villages , she was forced to take back that decision and get abused ..
but if a CM did not spend single penny from 787 crore rs collected from environment cess in most polluted city like Delhi , no one talks about that .. (RTI proved it)
Imandar tax ?
it is not old news , just 5 months back it was revealed that he did not use single penny from that cess/tax . https://www.financialexpress.com/india-news/as-...
………….
people feels pain in paying swachh bharat tax but envrionment cess is secular for them which is even not utilized at all .
I didn’t know about that.
Good you shared, will update this on my whatsapp status sometime….
On second thoughts about Defection and Rice program, I think if they don’t eat, they won’t need to defecate at all. So, essentially rice is the culprit and not defection….
Stop rice stop defection. lol.
Cleaning bhi ho jayegi aur sarkari rice will also get saved. Waah re governor…
mirror bro – are u from lajpat nagar
OP, it’s time you transfer some paytm cash to Mirror and me for taking hotness of your thread to such level in such a short time…
Perks of living in an Democratic country You can revolt against anything n everything Development is possible with democracy in long run but how long ? I would prefer dictatorship any day if that’s gonna help in country s economic growth and self development as an individual. Accountability is everything
We have everything but accountability
After experiencing congi pumps n hors for several decades nothing surprises more!
@cleaner
That is meant to question you precisely because your comment is unrelated n unnecessary there. We were discussing about how to bring a change and you are solely interested in whom to blame which is very straight forward here
The whole point of the thread n discussion over here is, people do things because others are doing it. The Empty Flat became a dumpyard because once upon a time someone started to consider as a dumpyard and rest followed him/her. Same applies to the above mentioned Bangalore references. When a change happens in one that will influence some other one and how can an administration can change the mindset of the people even though it is a harsh way. It has been mentioned again n again in almost each of my comments directly or indirectly
There is no use in saying “You are bad” to a Good/Bad person my friend because everyone has their own justifications of what they do. Asking themselves? Seriously?
If an Alchohol addict can simply reform himself by simply asking himself, how awesome it would be? for him and his family?
agree totally with decision .
and if they will clean their village , it will not benefit modi (honest party making joke of this decision on twitter) , it will only be beneficial for their own health .
people are careless on this issue and being an strict ex-IPS officer kiran bedi knows how to make realize people that this issue is only damaging their own health ..
however if there is no proper dump yard or any facility by govt to pick the waste then this issue also should be curbed .
