I am having a Jio Postpaid SIM. When i do a Postpaid recharge of 303/- I am asked to pay an additional 400/- as security deposit. In future I will be mostly using 149 plan which doesn’t exist in Postpaid. Now I have 2 options.
1) Convert SIM to Prepaid. For this i need to visit a Jio center and give ID, Address proofs along with an application and photograph. Not sure why they need all this when eKYC is already done.
2) Use the Pre on Post option. There are not much details about this. CC says this can.
be used only on top of a Postpaid plan.

Anybody has more details on (2) ?

If we opt for only 149/- on postpaid SIM from beginning, still do we have to pay security deposit?

I too had postpaid SIM.
I think the best way to manage Jio sim is to use as prepaid and as secondary sim so I already converted to prepaid by visiting center, but yes we have to fill a form and have to give a ID proof and photo like for other operators’s connection.

No benefit of using postpaid, I think you have to regiater for auto-bill pay in case of postpaid. I dropped the idra of converting pre to post because of this

400 refundable security + 99 prime, both needed to pay only on jio store for postpaid 1st payment.
1st (or 2nd bill) starts from 15th July – 303+15% tax

My Kind request to all, please don’t use jio postpaid connection. You have to pay extra security deposit of Rs400.
After security deposit you have to pay money(around rs350 to rs380) on monthly basis even if you are not using the service(calls, internet, etc). In my case i recharged my number with 399(jio dhana dhan offer/pre on post recharge),valid till 3 months, still company send me monthly rental bill that i had to pay without using postpaid service.
I faced this problem,so i suggest you all not to buy a postpaid connection.simply go with prepaid connection,it is best.
Lastly its your decision and your money.

I have same problem. Jio executives are dumb including senior executive to appellate officer. When I recharged for Summer suprise offer customer care told me that my offer is valid till 26 Sept and I dont have to pay anything. Also If I do pre on post recharge then I dont need to have any base plan. I have screenshot for all customer care reply. But they started charging me Rs 358 monthly from oct 26. I complained to consumer forum, Jio executive replied like this.

“This is with reference to the concern raised by the customer related to Postpaid construct. Our team has outcalled the customer and explained that the recharge done by the customer is a Pre-on-Post recharge which enables customers to enjoy prepaid recharge benefits on postpaid, irrespective of the Postpaid plan selected by the customer. Having said that, since customer has subscribed to Postpaid, monthly rental plan opted by the customer will be applicable. Customer has been requested to pay the outstanding dues to avoid any service interuption. "

So i am about to buy postpaid jio, only which can be used in my jiofi router (else i wud hav bought airtel postpaid)… Now i am not able to find out if jio sends a full fledged postpaid bill just like aritel and other vendors for postpaid plans or as the shop fellow claimed its a very basic small receipt with no customer address etc just like in prepaid.. Can any of u pls pls share how a relaince jio postpaid bill looks like? Jio Cc is of no use and absolutely dumb

It’s completely useless to opt for Jio Postpaid (unless you need it for official reimbursement) for reasons listed below:
(1) It’s mandatory to opt for a plan under postpaid and the minimum plan is Rs. 309. You will be billed 309 + GST = Rs. 358. while in prepaid you get the same services at 309 all inclusive.
(2) No benefits/discounts/coupons on bill payments (you can pay bill only on Jio site), while on prepaid you can avail Jio coupon discounts and if you recharge on 3rd party apps you avail additional benefits
(3) Pre-on Post recharges are a ploy to fool customers. If you make a pre-on post recharge of Rs. 309 on your postpaid, you will have to pay the additional postpaid monthly charges. This fact is not disclosed by Jio customer care or mentioned anywhere in T&C. If instead of paying your monthly rentals+tax of Rs. 358 you make a pre-on-post recharge of Rs. 309, your services will be blocked till you make the additional monthly fixed rental bill payment.
(4) Jio knows that only those people will opt for Jio Postpaid, where their Employer makes it mandatory to have a postpaid connection for claiming official reimbursement. Thatswhy they do not offer any deals or discounts on postpaid.
(5) I was having two Airtel postpaid connections and getting official reimbursements for both. But April 2017 onwards Govt made it mandatory to have two mobile connections from different service providers (thereby compelling us to switchover to another postpaid, probably to give business to Jio, whose freebie scheme closed in April 2017)

Your apprehension that you don’t need any base plan if you make any pre-on-post recharge is incorrect. Jio customer care are not fully informed about such details. I also faced the same issue and escalated it to the highest level. Finally it was established you need to have a base plan and pay a monthly rental of Rs. 309 or above to keep your postpaid connection active. The payment comes to Rs. 358 incl of GST.

309 base plan gives you unlimited calls + 1 GB data/day.
Making a pre-on-post recharge just gives you additional data over and above the base plan.

The notice you got for clearing the outstanding dues is correct. Use postpaid plan only if you need it for some specific reason, otherwise prepaid is the best option.
