have been using airtel fiber never faced any issue.
and you can not use 5g hotspot for office work (if you need to connect with office vpn to access office server and VDI.)
+ less upload speed.
Hi everyone,
Due to the issue mentioned here:
https://www.desidime.com/discussions/airtel-fib..., I have closed my Airtel broadband account.
.
I’m deciding between getting a new Jio Fiber connection or purchasing a basic 5G phone and using it as a hotspot. At my location, I’m getting speeds of 450 Mbps+. I already have a Jio Plus family postpaid plan with unlimited 5G data.
.
What would you recommend: should I opt for the fiber connection or purchase a basic 5G mobile and use it as a hotspot? also if you have any suggestions about mobile then please share in the comments section.
Thanks for your suggestions!

Yes, the upload speed is comparatively lower than the download speed; I am getting around 100 Mbps upload speed.
I have been using this setup for the last 7-8 days, and I haven’t faced issues with VPN.
However, the mobile battery drains quickly, which is why I was considering buying a very basic 5G mobile phone to use as a hotspot and not use costly phone.
Thank you for the information. I will think about it.
5G Mobile net is trail offer and it can end anytime. Go for fiber for reliable and in long run.
5G is eventually wireless network and you'll be at the mercy of the telecom companies to provide good service at your location. You might wake up one day and realize that the operator has degraded the indoor coverage, happened with a lot of people in the last few years.
Fiber would always be better due to consistent speeds and reliability.
Hmm true..or they can stop providing unlimited 5g data at any point.
Thanks for the suggestion. 😇🙏
Any day fiber is better than mobile hotspot. You get best latency only in wired connections. Jio is good, consider excitel if service is available
Yes, that's only option available now. Jio Air fiber reviews are not good as it works on same principle (5G).
Thank you for the suggestion. 😇🙏
Sorry for the language, but Jio corp & employees are assholes. They wanted to be paid installation etc for a prepaid connection even though I wanted to get 6 month plan. Airtel provides not only free installation for that but also 15% discount on the 6 month plan.
Then the Jio guy kept on misselling citing that Jio's prepaid plans have been stopped & aren't given anymore. Called another guy and he said that it's available.
Then this "another guy" met me and said prepaid & postpaid is the same since you anyway pay in advance. I said that I have the freedom to recharge whenever with prepaid. Postpaid can't be stopped & no payment has a penalty. He said there's no penalty, I showed him the official website but still kept denying.
Could be my experience only but I just feel Jio is rotten in their policies & functioning.
I just went with Airtel, smooth process, 10% more speed, reliable service overall. Since OPs problem was with billing, I'd suggest go with prepaid airtel fiber.
mobile 5g isn't that reliable
Agree.. Prepaid is much better than postpaid. They have suspended my internet last month but still they are generating bill.
Only advantage is that with postpaid they provide waiver for non working days if the problem is from their end but don't know if the same option is available in prepaid.
Thanks for the suggestion 😇🙏
take Jio Fiber if ever an internet ban is put in your area fibre will keep working . it is more reliable in general also.
also the basic phone used as a hotspot won't last long. you can take fibre with a basic plan to use over pc etc and for phone keep using unlimited 5g at the end it will cost you less than new phone.
First, take feedback from someone else in the locality who has jio fibre. also check for local broadbands excitel etc , bsnl railtel etc otherwise
I have only two options now. Take a new Airtel connection on family members name or go for Jio fiber connection. For Jio I will have to chase with my society for NOC as they have provided NOC for Airtel only atm. They won't allow any local internet providers.
Thanks for your suggestion 😇🙏
I went with JioFiber postpaid and would recommend it. Outages are very rare and well planned (Metro city); I usually get notification couple hours before if there are any planned servicing which might lead to outage and its always scheduled off working hours.
Postpaid has no security deposit and installation charges. Other than that, plans are exactly the same in both.
Take a new airtel fiber under your name. Use other id than the one used in previous connection. It is very much possible. Just use a different mobile number. You can claim the bills if your company allows.
Which 5g basic phone your referring to purchasing ?

Qualcomm devices since SD870 (also 865/865+ probably) have a feature called Night Charging. As far as I understand once enabled one can choose to stop the battery charging at 80%. Thereafter the device directly draws power from the charger only and the battery doesn't discharge at all. Can be considered a form of bypass charging. This way battery will last for several years. Only consideration is thermals. One can use a laptop cooling pad for the same. The only situation where it wasn't able to keep battery temps. under 40°C was constant downloads with speeds exceeding 200Mpbs.
Some OEMs (perhaps Samsung is one) enable the feature out of the box so rooting the device isn't necessary. Xiaomi doesn't so root is a must.
Xiaomi devices might also support manual battery charging voltage control with root. Thereby battery charging can be made to stop at any desired percentage, say 50%, which is even better for it's longevity.
