Last date to pay was 22nd August and I made payment on 24th. ICICI charged 900+162rs gst for 13.7k. Is there a way to get this fee reverted?

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), in its 2022 "Master Direction," announced that credit card issuers can mark an account as "Past due" to credit information agencies and charge a penalty only if the credit card remains "Past due" for over three days

Happened to me, Last week...

First time in ever I missed around Rs.1000 payment Due sob and was charged around Rs.800 in Late Fee & Interest...Thankfully got reversal

Here’s how I went,
Immediately paid dues in full & contacted ICICI Support via Call and waited for service agent,
Remember their first instinct is always to deny and state policy..so Be polite and state your concern, They will ofc deny reversal stating nothing is wrong and its was done as per Bank Policy...

This next part is important, Tell them nicely, I would like to know my options, and I'd like to 'escalate' this concern to the Credit department. Tell them you've been very careful and on time in the past and I need a second look. They will escalate and give you a Service Request number.
Based on your relationship with ICICI, The will reply with usually a good news in the next Banking Day.

For me, an agent followed up with update(something i love about ICICI, they always followup SR before closing) and informed we analysed and since we value your relation, reversal will be processed within a week. Think they will also take into account that you made full due payment immediately and then called, thus showing willingness to repay.

Ofc, agent itself confirmed there will be no CIBIL impact for this incident.

Ultimately everything depends on your history with ICICI and payment history. Ofc Banks rely on you failing to pay to make their money, but they value long term Bankng relationships plus1

This has happened probably to every other credit card user who has multiple cards or has had some cards for many years.

My story was interesting too. For the first time in my life I had an Infinia CC bill of over 2 lakhs around 3 years ago. The need to maximize savings through CC bill payments (CRED, Google Pay, Amazon Pay, PayTM, Mobikwik etc) meant I did multiple payments of 5k-25k from various sources. Eventually, I missed the CC bill by around 2k due to a calculation mistake on my part. I was charged interest + GST on the entire 2 lakhs and not just the 2k! That was an absolute shock and it is the standard practice across all credit cards. I called up the help desk, they said it is policy and I threatened to cancel the card. They said they are authorized to reverse only up to 2k or something and they will have to place a request to their manager for full waiver. I accepted the 2k and left it at that since it was my mistake.

After that day, I went and enabled auto-pay directly or indirectly on every single one of my credit cards and I instruct everyone to do it. There is no need to fear that you will have a fraud/invalid charge on your card that you will be forced to pay. You will anyway review your statement before the auto-pay kicks in.

Can request them, if it's your first time. They can waive it off completely or half. Depends on your timely payments in past.

Talk to customer care, they may oblige if not a repeat offender,

also this late payment may not show up in your cibil because it's only days

ICICI does that? They never charge a penalty from me, even if I miss payment by a week. rolleyes My card account is 8 years old though.

They won't reverse it completely. 36% interest from late payments & balance rollover form their bread & butter

Ask them you want to close the card due to these charges
Chances are high that they will revert the charges

It's deducted as per rule.

Try contacting seniors if want reversal.

It's difficult to get refund

It is perfectly fine to get reversal as rbi rule says no penalty if payment made within 3 days of due date which op did.

@PabloEscobar just send an email quoting rbi rule in this link:
https://www.rbi.org.in/scripts/FS_Notification....
Card-issuers shall report a credit card account as 'past due' to credit information companies (CICs) or levy penal charges, viz. late payment charges and other related charges, if any, only when a credit card account remains 'past due' for more than three days.

SBI reverse penalty charges once a year. Check if ICICI too follows something similar and ask them for reversal

First time I missed a payment for ICICI. Reasons behind - I cannot resist myself from another Rupay variant without cibil hit and LTF. It was my 3rd ICICI card and made some purchases and missed and messed up the overall payment.

It was 2K amount I missed for 7-8 days. Suddenly realized when I was checking the unbilled statement from imobile app. Unlike HDFC and some other banks they did not send any payment missed SMS within 3 days from due date.

I called and politely told that I missed. CC executive was not that humble and kept iterating "Sir, I am sorry but its as per policy" . I asked to escalate it to next level. He said I raised a SR. He said this wont be reported to cibil and not to worry about that. I am not sure about this part.

Next day another agent told me "Sir, I am sorry but its as per policy" . I said look my payment history for Apay and Platinum. More than 5 years I am using the card(s) and I never missed any payment. He said he raised another request but told me its about 50-50 chance.

Anyway after 2 days they reverted the charges(Rs.500) but I ended up paying (GST + Interest) ~Rs.200.

TBH they were not that polite like what GautamgR expereinced.

Is this because of I only have CCs with them not any A/Cs ?

No chance your due date may be prior as 3 days grace period as per rbi

They will reverse, but the issue is that they shouldn't charge you for a delay of only 2 days. Once, I got a reversal of charges that were a year old. I discovered this when I checked my annual statement. It didn't affect my CIBIL report because I had fortunately paid the minimum amount on time. Additionally, the delay in paying the remaining amount wasn't my fault either. This happened because HDFC bill payments (Bill-Desk) take time to reflect in ICICI cards, even though the transaction initiation date is shown. However, during that situation, they informed me that they also follow RBI's 3-day grace period.

On one occasion, I inadvertently missed a payment of Rs 199 on my SBI credit card. As a result, in the subsequent month, my total payment amounted to Rs 1400, encompassing not only the original dues but also additional charges such as finance and late payment fees. Unfortunately, this incident led to a 40-point decrease in my CIBIL credit score.
