What I generally consider zero or negligible debt compared to their assets. 

net profit growing year on year or almost same but not decreasing for last few years.

company news (don't buy according good news, you have to predict the future of the company according to current news). 

Share holding pattern

Positive cash flow

After filtering using these things you have to choose proper stock based on other fundamental analysis.

Hold that for a few years. If that gives good return then you'll figure out that it was worth buying and if that gives you loss then you'll figure out that it wasn't worth buying...  Simple...😎

Stick to MFs unless having hours of free time daily to track the shares & study its movements/balance sheets of companies.

ETFs are the safest bet... especially when you are starting a portfolio. You can have peace of mind and no unnecessary stress if your stock suddenly tanks.
