First they made access to lounges tough by either removing them or making to spend some xx amount previous month or quarter and now can't trust the lounge officials itself 😌

she was asked to download an app called "Lounge App" at the lounge in Bengaluru airport and they asked to do screen sharing for some verification (but eventually later she didn't use the lounge is what she said)
itseems they enabled call forwarding and made a transaction of 87k - cybercrime case
Power of 3rd party Employees
i find it hard to believe
looks like a cooked up story hiding her dumbness.. They asked to download some lounge app to generate QR code. she googled it and downloaded a fake app or fake website and entered her cc details. she is blaming lounge staff for this.
Another useless DD thread without verifying / understanding story .
Based on my experience, as of now, there isn't a single person in India who can steal money from anyone's account without the owner's permission. However, permission can be direct or indirect.
There's a test for a driving license that assesses knowledge of traffic rules and regulations and the ability to drive or ride a vehicle, which is quite necessary. Similarly, using the internet for financial transactions should require some training. This training can be formal or informal. There are thousands of YouTube videos explaining what to do and what not to do. The government is running advertisements, and apps also show ads about these precautions. But we, as human beings, often don't take the time to pay attention to them. These ads advise not to share OTPs with strangers, not to download apps that aren't from the official Play Store, and so on. Yet, despite all this, people still make the same mistakes.
I understand that some people may find it challenging to understand these things. In that case, it's better not to opt for UPI IDs and instead use mobile or internet banking.
I’m not blaming anyone, but learning these basics is crucial for one's safety.
- Don’t share OTPs with strangers.
- Don’t download apps that ask for unnecessary permissions.
- Never enter your financial details on untrusted websites or apps.
- Disable Aadhar biometric authentication.
By following these simple guidelines, no one in this country would be able to steal money from a bank account.
Calling these fraudsters 'hackers or even scammers' is an insult to genuine hackers or scammers. These are just people who collect garbage and plastic from the roadside and engage in fraud as a part-time job.
In this case, the question is: "Where did she get the link to download the app?" If it was on WhatsApp, it means someone shared it with her. The lounge staff wouldn’t share a fake link, as it’s part of their responsibility to provide accurate information, and if they did, they would be guilty. If someone else shared the link, the recipient should have at least checked the website before directly clicking on the URL. Anyone with basic knowledge could have easily avoided this situation.
she came to know this only when one of her friends said a male picked the call instead of her, even earlier she was told that her number was not reachable and she thought signal issue etc. when she received her statement and only then she realised she was duped of 87k when there was a transaction of the same sent to PhonePe and upon checking Call forwarding was enabled in her phone
Her statements clearly shows she is not techy or not that aware of how to access lounge via CCs or so vague to install any app thats appears as the first search in Google or told by friend and still not clear whether her friend sent her a link or the lounge person told to download the app and she didn't blame the airport authorities but my guess is all this happened due to ignorance as she was in some mental tension/pressure and her actual story to X was like a message to ppl not to download any app as you were told, guess those words " lounge at Bengaluru Airport" made the headlines more rather than a "another cybercrime story due to ignorance" infact folks at X tagged the Bengaluru airport and started saying how dumb the airport authorities are and this made them to call her and check the status which she has mentioned in her updated video 😃
First of all who carries a photo of credit card for lounge access and secondly which lounge accepts the photo of credit card to charge the customer? It's pin based so either you swipe or tap.
