Hi Dimers,
I use Hathway 50mbps plan and currently got new Dual Band GPON Modem + Wifi Router installed.
Now they are saying that new Dual Band GPON Modem + Wifi Router do not support lower speed plan and designed for higher speed plan above 100 mbps only and asking me to get it replaced with old router.
Hathway guys are no. 1 Layers and not trustworthy (as per my experience since years).
Each person tell new story for the same issue according to their own mind.
Their main motive is to grab your money anyhow and not the customer service.
- Are they telling the truth?
- 50mbps Plan will work on new Dual Band GPON Modem + Wifi Router?
- New Dual Band Router actually do not support it (lower speed 5mbps plan)?
Please share your experience about the issue and give your valuable suggestions.
Thank you very much
Update: Since morning two different person from Billing and Accounts department told me that as per the confirmation from their technical department Dual band router will not work with 50mbps plan.
Update: Now someone called and telling new story that 50 mbps plan will have speed issue with new Dual band modem+router and will give only 25-35mbps fluctuating speed.

Its not the mistake I struggled for almost 9 months and did not recharged it since 3 month.
After too much efforts I anyhow managed to get Dual Band Router and get it activated with 150 mbps Test plan
Initially they ask me to pay for 1 month 150 mbps plan to activate Dual band router and confirmed that I can later switch to 50 mbps plan
But now when Dual band router is active with test/demo 150 mbps plan
they are telling me 50 mbps plan will never work with it and I have to replace New Dual router with Old (Used) single band router (because new single band router is out of stock since long)
Yeah that’s the issue with Hathway, their support is all over the place. You should have taken it in record that they will let you use dual-band router with 50mbps plan.
Anyway, I don’t know what you can do except wasting your time with their support.
They can block the dual-band router from their network anytime they want and you will have to deal with them all over again.
I would suggest you buy your own router as I find the provided routers are anyways not upto the mark. (and you do have to return hathway router in the end)
You are right.
They may block the router from their end.
Will Hathway allow to use personal Gpon Modem+wifi router?
If yes then from where can I buy it and how much it will cost (any idea or link)?
I am using Airtel 40mbps plan on dual band router. Downgraded from 100mbps to 40mbps
Throw their router on their face. Get you own router.
Use their provided gpon modem + router, then connect your own dual-band router to hathway router using LAN and then connect all your devices to your own personal router. (I had this setup for 2 years without any issues)
You can easily get dual-band router on amazon as per your budget.
Actually I do not require a dual band router
(I already have normal dual band tp-link wifi router but do not use it)
what I need is a new modem from Hathway
as new single band modem is out of stock since long, I managed to get new modem but its so called dual band router as they call it.
but now they say this new dual band will not work 50 mbps plan (lower speed)
now they are saying this will work but with fluctuating speed around 25-35 mbps only
Tell them you are ok with fluctuating speed.
Nothing would happen.
Update: Now some other person called for recharge and telling that 50 mbps plan will work on dual band router and if it will not work he will refund the amount paid in 45 days (what a jock)
He was making calls since morning till the evening after a short break.
Main motive is to take money anyhow (by manipulating, telling lies and making fool)
dont you have other isp option?
yes Airtel (non fiber) and other Local ISP (Fiber)
using Hathway (Fiber) since years
Update: Today someone from Hathway called and confirmed that 50 mbps plan can technically run on dual band router but Hathway (Compnay) do not allow 50 mbps plan on dual band router due higher cost of router and if you recharge 50 mbps plan they will block dual band router.
To answer your questions…
1. No they are not telling the truth.
2. 50MB plan should work with the router, there is no compatibility issue. (but Hathway can in theory block the router from their network if they want)
3. Dual-band routers do support speeds lower than 5mbps. I used to have a dual-band router with bsnl 2mbps plan back in the day and still use that router with a 50mpbs plan from my local ISP.
The only thing is Hathway does not provide dual-band routers on plan below 100mbps, so maybe you got it by mistake. (last I checked 6 months ago with their cc)
