Got this benefit a few months back. I called them thinking they will waive cancellation charges after hearing my problem, then came to know of this dgca rule and got free cancellation.

Do you know that the flight tickets can be cancelled / amended without any charges, if below conditions are met:
- (i) Cancellation within 24 hours of booking and
- (ii) Cancellation shall be 7 days prior to the departure date
2. As per DGCA guidelines on Refund of Airline Tickets to Passengers of Public Transport
Undertakings, the airlines shall provide “Look-in option” for a period of 24 hours after booking ticket, which will provide a window for passengers to cancel or amend the ticket without any additional charges.
3. If guidelines are there then why do airlines charge almost Rs.3,000/- per ticket while cancelling the tickets? You shall know that the airlines are complying with the guidelines by providing such option on IVR / customer care facility for cancellation or amendment within prescribed time. You may need to quote the cancellation or amendment as per Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR) Section 3, Series 'M', Part II.
But why only on IVR? Who knows! maybe it is a Dark Pattern.

Booking was directly with the airline, right? (and not with an agent)
@RasAlGhul Thanks. Are both the conditions to be met or only one can be satisfied ?? My usecase, i have a planned trip in 2nd half November. I have already booked tickets 1 month back. Can i do free cancel those tickets before 7 days prior to my departure date ?
Both conditions need to be met.
