The Panipuri seller with Rs. 40 lakhs revenue receives summons from the Tamil Nadu Goods and Services Tax ( GST ). The government has tracked the UPI payments of the panipuri seller. 40 lakh accounted sales -

cash sales should atleast more than these upi payments.Ā

So it safe to assume his turnover must be over 1 crores. Even if we assume profit margin at 40 % then his annual income will be 40 lakhs to 50 lakhs.Ā

If earning so much and not paying gst and income tax then it is crime.Ā

Salaried people paying taxes even if they earn 10 lakh per annam. But business people avoiding taxes earning 50 lakh and 1 crore.Ā

And irony is people supporting these dishonest people.Ā

Whats wrong from his side? Probably he is an illiterate, he is doing road side business. Government should infact provide free tax consultant services for such people who may not aware of tax policies instead of harrasing them..

You are mistaken then bro.

They are very clever despite being a Pani Puri seller. They just don't show off money by keeping very low lifestyle.

They just act poor and illiterate to get sympathy.

Makes fortune being on Road, Avoiding Taxes, No Rent, No Maintenance, Gets Freebies from the government despite being "40 Lac" Poor.

Everyone may be not the same, but most of them are. Sometime just go and check their assets, you will know. šŸ˜‚

I don't know why people are so much after GST.

The indirect tax was already there in India before the GST. In the name of Service Tax/State Tax/VAT/etc.

GST just way of collecting the same different indirect taxes in an organized manner and ease of doing business. It's blessing actually.Ā

Most merchants used to avoid it the way this PaniPuri wala is doing right now. It was easy, untraceable. But with GST it's not. That's why it's good for country and bad for tax evaders.

There are many people like this....in Hyderabad abids...some mobile repair persons earn 15,000 daily on another average. may be monthly around 4 lakhs also... I have replaced screens many time from that person.

Many business like this...they take cash for repair .etc.... incash economy you can't bring them into income tax slabs.... They also use 5-6 persons upi IDs...you know all family members... So no way to track them...unless all customers ask proper GST bill.

Govt never track any UPI transaction.

Banks report the total amount deposits in the bank.

It doesn't matter how the payment is made.

Second thing, most merchants use their merchant UPI accounts for money rotation. Thatā€™s why such small merchants reach amounts like ā‚¹40 lakhs.

So technically, what will you do by taking cash? Your business isnā€™t that big. Use UPI only for genuine business transaction. If youā€™re a small merchant, you wonā€™t cross such limits, and if someone does, itā€™s because their business isnā€™t small.

One more thing, if it's a business, make sure to get your GST registration done and open a current account in the bank. Banks will anyway inform you when GST becomes necessary.Ā GST won't be required upto a certain limit.

@Bk100

Ya, payment gateways also report.

These days, some merchants are misusing RuPay Credit Card UPI by rotating it excessively.

There are also some customers who say things like, 'I use RuPay credit card UPI at petrol pumps, paan shops, milk vendors, and grocery stores to withdraw money into my bank or Cash.'

And all these petrol pump owners, paan shopkeepers, milk vendors, and grocery shop owners giving it without much thought.

Anyway, leaving all that aside, if he genuinely did a business worth 40 lakhs, then dude, he must have earned really well.

When we hear the word 'panipuri seller,' we assume they must be poor, struggling to somehow make ends meet for two meals a day.

But dude, you have no ideaā€”some vendors like these earn quite a lot.

If you visit their homes, you'll find 3-4 cars and 2-3 big houses with multiple floors (I actually went to one such merchant's house for some reason, and I was shocked to see it myself).

But technically, they still call themselves poor.
