Setting Up Your Home Server for Movies: A Step-by-Step Guide
What You’ll Need:
1. A Spare Device: This could be an old Android phone, a desktop, or a laptop that you can keep running 24/7.
2. Enough Storage: Ensure your device has sufficient storage to house your movie collection.
3. Unlimited Internet Connection: A reliable, high-speed internet connection is crucial for downloading and streaming movies.
4. Basic Knowledge: Just a bit of understanding of how to navigate through settings and install apps.
For Android Devices:
Step 1: Connect Your Android Device to Your PC
If you’re using an Android device, you’ll need to connect it to your PC. Here’s how:
1. Install `scrcpy` on Your PC: `scrcpy` is a free and open-source tool that allows you to control your Android device from your PC. You can download it from here.
2. Connect Over USB/WiFi: Once installed, you can connect your Android device to your PC via USB or WiFi. For WiFi, ensure both devices are on the same network.
Step 2: Configure Your Router
To ensure smooth torrenting, you’ll need to enable UPnP in your router settings:
1. Access Router Settings: Open your web browser and enter your router’s IP address (usually `192.168.1.1` or `192.168.0.1`). Log in with your admin credentials.
2. Enable UPnP: Look for an option labeled UPnP or Universal Plug and Play. Enable it and save the settings. If you can’t find this option, comment down your WiFi provider, and I’ll help you locate it.
Step 3: Set Up Torrenting on Your Android Device
Now, let’s get your Android device ready for downloading movies:
1. Install LibreTorrent: LibreTorrent is a powerful, open-source torrent client for Android. You can download it from the Google Play Store.
2. Set Download Location: Open LibreTorrent, go to Settings, and set the download location to your device’s Downloads folder.

Awesome... Thanks for sharing. VU and KG+
Is this like Plex and Jellyfin? I have been thinking about creating a Media Server but don't have a spare device. Have a spare HDD which is lying in my home for years which I cannot connect to my laptop always. Wish there was a way to just plug HDD to a power source and use it as a server.
plex consumes a lot of resource, and jellyfin was a fork of emby source code
I have one question, why not setup this on a 24/7 VPS server???
Its gonna be waste of free resources. Like some company is providing free stuff for learning purpose and we gonna waste them for entertainment.
I also have aws server which i use for some helpful apps.
Any decent paid vps gonna cost more than 10$. And i have mobile so i can host it for free.
It maybe noob question, but can someone share their already running setup with me, I will contribute by seeding if it's possible and can also contribute ensuring smooth operational tasks.
Great info. Karma given. Heat added.
