I book ticket even return too, tickets not confirmed, though I traveled & returned & got full payment back

But their is a catch

Buy ticket only from irctc website

3rd party like Paytm, Amazon

They won't return you money back

Personally experienced, so now I only book tickets from irctc website only

With the kind of system IRCTC has, it's always better to directly book from the website unless it's a 100% confirmed journey that you wouldn't cancel.
