Favourite breakfast as a kid

Wontdisplaym...

India has a diverse range of breakfast options, and some of the most popular ones I have heard of are idli, dosa, poha, upma, paratha, chole bhature, aloo paratha, puri bhaji/sabzi.
Having born and brought up in Maharashtra, I have known of only these options, though poha has been my favourite ever since childhood days. However, I recently came across a food recipe that was had as breakfast by many during their childhood.
So, I thought of asking fellow dimers, what was your favourite breakfast as a kid and whether your choice has evolved over the years?
The link to the breakfast recipe I found out recently and liked it - https://www.instagram.com/reel/C_c8la0Snup/?igsh=cXRmdXRkYnp6ZGth

P.S. It may not be considered healthy as it involves bread but I think its ok to have it once in a while.

Breakfast? I dont know that it exists when i was kid.

Edit:

If i feel hungry visit temple on the way to school. For sure will get banana 🍌or some bite of coconut or on the way to school, if lucky pluck some kacha guava or during rainy season some kala jamoon or tulasi leaves. So many whatever i get to grab on the way. I dont know now its called breakfast.

I am surprised no one has mentioned Sabudana Khichdi (Tapioca Pearls they say in English - such a fancy name, hehe). It's quite popular in our Maharashtrian culture:)

interesting thread:)) HA

Not related to this, but when we are talking about breakfast, our knowledgeable social teacher used to talk about hungry 40s and how food used to be rationed.

There were stories i read about it written by writers. I was happy with whatever i have, never complained.

Surprised you had chai as a kid :O

I was never given chai/coffee in my childhood. It was generally plain milk (no sugar) and sometimes, complan milk.

Not really considered as a breakfast option outside MH. Even in MH, it has now become more of a upwas dish than breakfast. We used to have it more as an evening snack/early dinner dish.

If i think now, i dont actually have any fond memories of breakfast, it was the most hurried meal of the day probably.

I rarely had cooked meals on working days for breakfast, something like milk with chocos was more common. Weekends were good, usually some kind of paratha (gobhi, paneer , potato were the favorites) and sundays had either chole bhature or aloo puri.

I did not know people had Chole Bhatura for breakfast.

When I was growing up, most restaurants in the south usually prepared it only in the evenings. Only upscale hotels would have it available throughout the day

Sada parantha with tea.

Sometimes it was poha or if it was Sunday, there used to be aloo parantha or mooli paranthas.
