Newbie thieves, opportunistic thieves would and probably do appreciate the insights on what best can be/ should be done with the stolen/found/ burgled Apple devices.

Voted down for misleading the investigations, by using the word 'stolen'.
As an analogy, this would be like Ajay 'bolo zubaan keshari' Devgan's character from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam claiming that Salman 'black buck lover' Khan's character 'stole' his (advocate Vanraj's) wife. When in reality, tilted neckgan himself is like.. no honey, go to Sameer Rossellini.
Nobody 'stole' that phone.
[User has little respect for money, assets.]
