Popular multiplex chain PVR INOX has introduced dynamic charges for movie tickets amid growing criticism of its pricing strategies. A company representative confirmed the development on Saturday after an X user flagged the fluctuating price of his Twisters movie ticket. The company recently launched ad-free content for the big screen amid a persistent decline in footfall after the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We have come up with dynamic pricing to give our customers the added benefit of getting tickets at a lucrative rate. Hence the prices can fluctuate. Let me assure you that you weren't overcharged and that the per-ticket cost was indeed at the time of booking," the official explained.
It was not immediately clear if the dynamic pricing policy was in place across India or cinema halls of a certain format. Posts shared by other social media users however indicate that the policy had been rolled out some time earlier.
“My mom and I came to watch a movie in PVR (Global Mall, Mysore road), when I checked the ticket prices it was 350 on Bookmyshow. When we went to buy the ticket at the counter, they charged us 400. When asked for the price increase they quoted that it was dynamic pricing. Since when did they start this? I understand the dynamic pricing for flight tickets and all…but movie tickets?" recalled a Reddit user earlier this month.

Dynamic price holy Frail lol, they just can put any price they want lol JUST A GIMMIC lol
is there market maker to control this supply demand? the market maker is PVR INOX lol so they can put any price they want AND CLAIM ITS SUPPLY VS DEMAND DYNAMIC PRICING LOL hahahahahahaha
people are screwed xD
Thoda aur use karle "LOL" word.
Capitalism and market forces at work. If people are willing to spend 350 + another extra 150 on snacks/beverages + transportation costs, what is an extra 50 bucks or so.
For the ones who dont want to deal with all the hassle they can totally shun it all and decide to find some other form of entertainment.
If it ultimately ends up hurting their bottomline they will revert back to lower prices.
deadpool ticket prices go 🚀🚀🚀🚀
I am not their target audience. And target audience are the ones that won't think twice before paying that.
Hopefully poor farmers of India can learn some & implement dynamic prices for vegetables.
There is indeed dynamic pricing. Fresh produce sells at premium and prices gradually slope down.
The quantum of these prices is the actual problem in farming alongwith bad timing (most farmers bring their produce at the same time so supply surplus is created).
Bottomline, true dynamic pricing only exists in monopolies.
Whenever someone hears this term, understand that you are in a monopoly. And the best way to break it is to shun the service.
OTT has made a major dent on multiplexes. PVR has been running into losses since the last few years.
It's been almost a year since 2023! Mid or 4th quarter types
People complain about expensive popcorn at movie-theatres. They complain about expensive tickets / dynamic pricing now. The problem is the people themselves - they can't control their urges. Don't get the popcorn. Don't go to the fancy mall close to your home. Don't go on a weekend evening.
I live in Mumbai and even in the poshest-of-posh locations of South Mumbai there's a beautiful single screen called Regal where tickets always cost Rs 100 / 150 / 200 for stalls, balcony, dress circle. Occasionally, they bump up the rates by Rs 50 for the Khan movies to cover for higher distribution prices. The stall seats are a little compact and hardy but if you travel by local trains even those stall seats are way better. Yes, there's no carpeting of the floor, no glitzy lobbies but the A/C, audio and picture quality are as good as any with a screen size that's bigger than most multiplexes. The wooden lobbies have an old world charm and are clean. Popcorn, even caramel, is Rs 100 for small and 200 for large. The balcony/dress-circle seats are much better and free of chapris that you sometimes may find in stalls due to the low ticket prices. I watched Oppenheimer for Rs 150 on a comfortable Saturday evening while PVR INOX were trying to extract over Rs 500 for corner or front row seats. For movies like Dune, Mad Max, John Wick, I do splurge on IMAX but for everything else and especially Hindi movies Regal works beautifully. Best of all, since there are nearly a 1000 or more seats, it is never house-full (except for rare situations like Pathaan's release which was anyway not something I wanted to watch).
I noticed this for an advance ticket booking. They charge more when advance ticket booking is over.
Movie agar kuch khaas nahi perform kar rahi to BOGO offer dete hai jaise bad newz pe diya
