Do NOT fall for all the chatter around AI PC, Copilot+ PCs for the time being

I really want to write a long essay on the topic but I guess you can just ask Bing/Gemini/other AIs why. Just wait for 2-3 years before jumping in.

But besides all the great reasons you will find everywhere, it has been Microsoft's imperative since Windows 7 that they make existing hardware incompatible as they upgrade their OS offering. You may recall that Windows 10 made huge number of existing hardware obsolete by putting TPM chip requirements. Windows 11 made even more existing devices incompatible with similar requirements. They are making Copilot+ PC requirements so high with 40 NPU TOPS requirement that the new AI PC offerings by x86 manufacturers like AMD and INTEL cannot satisfy their requirements and would possibly not be able to satisfy their requirements for another year at least. All the hoopla is Microsoft's effort to sell you new hardware on the promise of running AI on your PC directly which is in itself is a rather questionable idea for myriads of reasons. So, until Windows on ARM become a mainstream thing, the existing x86 softwares run efficiently on their PRISM emulator or even better, becomes available as native ARM apps, do not pay any attention to all the chatter around Snapdragon X Elite and so on. For commercial laptop PCs, the existing hardware that you have will perform exactly same as or better than the current generation of Windows on ARM, battery life will improve on ARM and if battery life is all you care about, you'd do much better buying a Mac Air/Pro at the same or lower price compared to the current generation of Windows on ARM PCs.

The above is not applicable for app developers.

You would care when your PC will not receive any more updates as it fails to satisfy hardware requirements.

You should have read before commenting, it is not a post on how useful AI is but on how your hardware will soon become obsolete, but even then, you should wait for a few more years before jumping in Windows on ARM bandwagon.

Exactly. I agree with the original poster. Microshit Grandmasoft basically has no real competition in the PC space (the overpriced Mac /MacBooks don't count) and they are abusing it for a long time. There's no need to keep "upgrading" your OS or your hardware unless the benefits in terms of new features or productivity, usability are really SUBSTANTIAL. The last few releases of Windows have been going MAJORLY BACKWARDS by removing existing good and useful and making the OS less productive, less usable, more annoying and more intrusive.

Despite paying for the OS, they are showing ads and nonsense in your OS and perfectly good features from the Taskbar, File Explorer, Start and many other advanced settings/Group Policy settings have been removed in Windows 11. An "upgrade" is really a major downgrade so move to it at your own risk - you will regret it.

AI is a big advancement but the actual useful and practical applications of AI will take time to be realized. The big corporations are just riding on the AI bandwagon and building up more hype around it because it's the next big thing to make money off at YOUR expensive while the features you cared about from previous releases are deleted.

Let me tell you this every company wants to maximize their earnings from their consumers and they will drop to new low every now and then, their are countless examples like apple moving to arm cayse they can milk users for their so called giga mega powerful chips based on ARM cause it will be cheaper to produce then asking intel to supply theirs. ARM itself is a big mess the ships jumping to ARM are just seeing another pathway to milk their consumers, they could have build RISC-V SoCs for cheaper than ARM but they won't the will follow the trend and will do anything to get those moneys rolling in. AI is just another thing for them to do just that, especially their new copilot in their ARM devices which can track and record your every move you make on your PC, so it's everything for money, i kinda like china for this they have their own processor lineup and OSs which are heavily utilised by their government infrastructure, while in india government is just clueless about this(1).

by relying in foreign corporates for the infrastructure is a big risk for safety and sovereignty of the said country, ofcourse the corporates have their own contact that they won't do that or that, but but but the corporates having their HQ and controls in another country will do anything if the said country asked them to do so. Their were many tries to replace OS to Linux but the so called NIC just hires some monkeys who only knows how to work on Microsoft shit, they have no idea about the technological advancements and the only reason they have their websites getting overwhelmed just by traffic perhaps they never thought of using load balancing or any other stuff, their codes are written in ASP how many websites are powered by ASP nowadays? not even 10% of the entire web, the majority being php, js, perl, go, ruby and python but no we will beg Microsoft for our work cause we have no idea how to work outside their ecosystem. Guess this will be enough ranting for now. bye bye 👋🏻 (2)
