Hello,
Someone about 70 years age,
with weight related conditions (swollen legs, frequent knee and ankle pain) and possible heart conditions (not sure, but had ASD closure open-heart surgery in past. no ongoing medications)
having moderately high to (sometimes) severe pain in areas of wisdom teeth, one of which is in main problems. That (third last, lower jaw) wisdom tooth had a root canal done more than a decade back.
She (70 year patient) had some different type scan or x-ray done, in which head is slowly turned on both sides and a printout type scan of the complete jaw is there.
Presently one team of local doctors gave some antibiotics and pain-killers to manage
what they call is a developing infection at the base of one of the root-canals.
Could any doctors or someone in the know please tell
in dental surgeries and Repeat Root Canal Treatment (ReRCT), what exactly is 'CBCT'?
I mean in simple to convey terms?
Thank you so much.
Multiple relative dentist doctors, acquaintance dentists and two different local dentists are giving multiple possible remedies and it is overwhelming.
One dentist doctor told her that Auntie i am going to arrange an endocrinologist, because THEY specialise in root-canal or in doing repeat root-canal.
Another is saying, that risk of the fork like legs fracturing and remaining inside.. (risk) is there.
Auntie you tell the local doctor if getting it extracted (temoved) and instead putting an implant is better.
(Depends on jaw bone health.)
But other local demtist is like.. auntie take these 4-5 days antibiotics course, maybe no knife/surgery needed.
One multi-speciality type one (the one which said that they will arrange for an endocrinologist) said that they would prefer to do the repeat root-canal in one sitting only.
But the patient's native place doctor, on phone call, told that some 45 minutes wait is needed after some patchwork and better is to let the epumd heal and only then go for round two of root-canal.
Multiple teeth have recurring issues, so all doctors are more or less sure that the 11-12 year old root canal will need to be dug out.
But mini patch up, long patch up or implant... THAT part is left open.. after digging up.
One message sent by the local doctor team is as below.
Repeat RC doesn't weaken the teeth. In your current condition we would advice ReRCT. During ReRCT we will take CBCT and if found any issue then only will advice Extraction with Implant else will do RCT.
Basic objective is to now see to it that for her remaining years, she has less issues and better quality of life.
Not sure about blood glucose issues.
She (patient) is careless. Sometimes gets HbA1c done, else not.
No other regular medication as such.
No CVDs or those type medications.
But has had full body slam type falls too, as due to leg pain and overweight.. has tripped in floormats (due to dragging feet, without properly lifting).
Sprry, I am not good at conveying.
Just trying to understand what CBCT is.
Patient does NOTHING by way if changing sedentary lifestyle.
Patient gets angry and even vitriolic if someone says that extreme steps like liposuction or ketogenic diet plans would help.

cbct is, consider an xray/opg but its a 3d scan. you need to post the main thing in consice language, too much unneeded and confusing stuff.
about your last line, LIPOSUCTION IS A STRICT NO AT THIS AGE

cbct is nothing just a 3d scan of the area for better visualisation so nothing to worry about it will cost around 2-3 k. If there is no opposing 3rd molar(wisdom tooth) and she has other teeth adjacent to it that are healthy so just get it removed and no need of implant as main purpose of teeth is so that we can eat and she can manage with other teeth that are present , so at this age why to have her so much troble
