Despite the thief’s repeated apologies and desperate pleas for mercy, the middle-aged passenger remained unmoved, continuing to thrash him. The thief, in a bid to earn forgiveness, even tried to sit and catch the elderly man’s feet, crying out, “Uncle ji mar jaunga. Aaj ke baad nahi hoga" (Uncle, I will die. It won’t happen after today). But the uncle showed no signs of stopping.

Many condemned the excessive violence, suggesting that handing the thief over to the police would have been more appropriate. “I admit that the thief stole but he is apologizing, after that what is the point of beating him like this, you can hand him over to the police, no one has the right to beat him," commented one ‘X’ user. Another added, “Stealing is wrong, it does no good to anyone. This person stole the purse, which is a wrong thing, but the way he is being treated is also not humane…" The third one said, “You can’t beat someone that badly.."

On the other hand, some felt the actions were justified. “To kya aarti utarte…? Uncle ji is a soft hearted person," one user sarcastically noted. Another chimed in with, “Belt treatment."

WHAT ?  Should be Done in these cases OR What would you do in a Similar Situation?

Uncle ji didn't have iron or wooden rod?..

1. There is no patience specially in Delhi people.

2. The thief s apology was also fake. Obviously he would do it again...

Summary: chingari is enough for our people to kill other people.

Its not about what's right or wrong here. In delhi people are just mute spectators, police is corrupt and criminals have no fear of law...even if the thief would have pushed that man from train in order to save himself and if, god forbid, some accident would have happened people would still be watching and sharing their opinions and may have forgotten the incident few days later. Yes they should have Hand him over to police but not without belt treatment... these theives know how honest is police in india, you might see him again just next day roaming free. Beg if you can't earn but stealing is not a small thing, middle class people know how much hardwork they put just to save some rupees. No sympathy at all for criminals.

All these people must be treated with belt treatment so that they don't steal anything in future.

Thief looks like an illegal Rohingya/ Bangladeshi alien. Belt treatment is must before handing over to the Police. Uncle ji ka mehnat ka kamai hai, chori karke drugs and alcohol ke upar udaane ke liye phokat ka maal nahin hai.

Having experienced theft of 2 almost new cellphones in our family when money was especially tight, I have often thought about what I would do a mobile thief if I ever caught one. Haath saaf toh pakka kar dunga mann bhar karke (I'll thrash that person to my heart's content for sure) 😬

This is really mild compared to what I have personally seen. I'm usually against violence but when I try to put myself in similar situation to this I can't say the same.

I also lost my mobile and purse in 2013 while I was in metro, stealing is common thing in Delhi metro and the police are hand in glove with theifs in Delhi. This is my personal experience.
