I came here to read your views on it but since a thread does not exist yet, I am creating one. Let this be the single place to read info about how to prevent this devil from entering your body. Those of you who are in Noida / Bangalore, what are your views? Assuming the Noida man had this thing since 20th Feb, he would have gone to a lot of crowded places in last 10 days and since incubation period is 15 days, we may not know who all locally caught this in last 10 days !

@topgear : There is definitely some conspiracy by someone, all this is not natural (think bio warfare). This thing spreads by breathing also, not only sneezing, else so many would not have got infected.

Also, Trump tested negative today, even after an aide whom he was in touch with tested positive. How is that possible, specially considering Trump is old.

Incubation period is min 2 weeks. when virus enters in body, it may take 14 days to start showing symptoms.
This is very dangerous. Because normal people can also have it but they don’t know it and spreading to others.
Some people who tested negative in initial days were confirmed positive in further tests.
Also, after quarantine and treatment, people released as recovered may test positive again.

Vegetarian food, Indian immunity won’t prevent Covid-19, says Anand Krishnan

There seems to be an overwhelming optimism that heat will reduce the impact of coronavirus. What do you think?

The chances of survival of the virus will be less as the temperature goes up, but the exact impact is hard to predict. Whatever the impact, one thing is for sure, it will not be drastic.

Many social media messages claim that Indians have a higher immunity because of the conditions we live in and are exposed to. Is that correct?

That is absolute drivel. There is no immunity against the novel coronavirus. It is also difficult to say for certain whether it is impossible to get a second infection because it is a new virus. While in case of some viruses one gets lifelong immunity after the first infection, in other cases that doesn’t happen. But there is no cross immunity — in the sense that an earlier infection caused by some other virus will give you immunity against the coronavirus.

Read in Malayalam | Tamil | Bangla

Many people have switched to vegetarian food for fear of contracting the virus.

There is no evidence that choice of food will make any difference in the spread of the virus. Food is certainly not the source of transmission. It may be different for people who live near abattoirs etc. But if you cook it in your home kitchen and have it, there is no problem. Well-cooked meat is never a problem.

What about the preventive functions of garlic, turmeric, honey etc. Do they help?

These are very general… We have been having garlic for years. If it was really protective we would not have any diseases. These are very general, not specific to any disease, least of all the novel coronavirus.

What is social distancing?

Respiratory infections spread by contact so there are normally restrictions placed on social mixing. A distance of 1-2 metres is good enough for an infection to spread. There are models on how an infection spreads based on available data. That is where the effectiveness of such measures are estimated. However, there are issues related to the availability of such data to cover all population groups.

This has been known since a long time, you can be asymptomatic for a fortnight but still be nCoV positive, more importantly though you will likely infect others in that time!

Coronavirus: People consume cow urine in Kolkata

A cow urine consumption programme was organised in north Kolkata on Monday out of the belief that it will protect people from the coronavirus or cure them in case they have already been infected.

A group of men organised a cow-worship programme at a cowshed at the Jorasanko area and consumed cups of cow urine.

“We believe that consuming cow urine would further strengthen our immunity and protect us from the coronavirus,” one of the organisers said.

Depends on their immune system, by the end of 14-15 days the body should ideally flush out the virus. Of course everyone is different so x number of people will be fine & y number’s condition will get worse, again depending on their immune system & what they’re doing in that period. Remember stress & lack of sleep will weaken your immune system so being healthy & staying healthy is essential if you want to survive the infection → whether you have early symptoms or not. The fatality rate of confirmed cases is close to 4% which is frankly really bad for anything this contagious, my advise stay healthy & be happy. You can also get secondary diseases like pneumonia, but one would have to think that most people who are well off & can afford decent healthcare will take enough precautions that it doesn’t get to that.

Fantastic breakthrough by German scientists, just published in Cell and today corroborated in PNASc that CoVID19 employs human TMPRSS2 protein for entry. Existing anti-TMPRSS2 drug Camostat (+E-64d) blocked CoVID19 infection. It is apparently made by Sun Pharma in India and sold as Camopan.

So far, we have 3 deaths so far. Not alarming at the moment, but seriously people need to stay at home and stay away from elders as they are more prone to the diseases and please wear mask or use sanitizer. You are prone to kill the elder without knowing.

These anti-bacterial claims aren’t recognised worldwide but there is no proof against it as well. Just like homeopathy doesn’t have very much scientific backing but it sure is effective for treating diseases!
