As we cant maintain too much bank accounts by a single person (because too much hazzle), so better to find best bank accounts and open account so this post is just for that:) to help everyone:) so lets see:)
Bank Account -> List of Must have SAVINGS BANK Account?
Hello Dimers,
I would like to create a good all rounder list of "bank accounts" TO MAINTAIN? (NOT GONNA ADD ALL BANKS IN INDIA LOL) so want to filter based on worthiness of valid reason to have it in the first place
________________________________________________________________
List:
1) Axis Savings Bank Account (reason: once upon a time good service - not really much now, but heard their business neo accounts are good)
- axis liberty savings account - variant suggestion courtesy and thanks to rahulsoni0706846
2) HDFC Savings Bank Account (reason: offers and credit card sale offers)
- hdfc savings max account - variant suggestion courtesy and thanks to rahulsoni0706846
3) NSDL Payment Bank (reason: for Rupay Platinum Debit card.) - suggestion courtesy with thanks to MohitSinghRajput
- Zero balance Account with Zero fee on Debit card. Monthly maintenance charges is ₹5.90
4) Indian Bank Savings Bank Account (reason: cheapest PSU bank account with good number of branches and some perks like rupay platinum debit card .. etc)
5) SBI Bank Savings Bank Account (reason: Zero balance account, free virtual debit card, good net banking) - suggestion courtesy with thanks to dhinchakrohit
6) RBL Bank Savings Bank Account (reason: RBL Signature + DC gives 1.41% CB and it's annual fee waiver by spending 3Lac p.a) - suggestion courtesy with thanks to DimeEarner
7) CREDIT CARD ORIENTED - Jupiter Edge Federal Bank Savings Bank Account (reason: DC gives 100 UPI+ 150 DC and Edge CSB CREDIT CARD gives 2% which is only possible with Jupiter account) - suggestion courtesy with thanks to DimeEarner
8) Bank of Baroda Super Savings (20k MAB) (reason: For FYF RuPay Select DC & FREE virtual RuPay Platinum DC, rupay select offers amazon prime memebership at Re.1) - suggestion courtesy with thanks to sahil1033
- Bank of Baroda has a catch though for having both virtual and physical DC ... at the time of opening bank account, don't opt for physical debit card ... let the account open, generate virtual debit card and then only request for physical debit card
9) Kotak Mahindra Bank Everyday Savings A/C - suggestion courtesy with thanks to sahil1033
- for people unable to get high end credit cards for EazyDiner benefit, it offers a good benefit but only beneficial for those go dine out even once on a quarterly basis as the value offered is unmatched. Even if someone visits Barbeque Nation or Absolute Barbecues, it's worth it at 30% off, plus the benefit of DC being a RuPay Platinum variant.
10) Good for travel international - Indusind Exclusive savings account and zero balance if you have Pinnacle CREDIT CARD (reason: 112.5k cc bill pay with DC the return value is Rs 1050, 0.93%) - suggestion courtesy with thanks to ENCOUNTER_SHANKAR
If you have a Pinnacle credit card
- then this account will have zero MAB & debit card will also be LTF,
- Debit card have zero forex markup charges & unlimited zero ATM withdrawal charges worldwide,
- Debit card have good offers on bigbasket, movie tkts etc)
11) RBL Aspire 1 Lakh AMB (reason: offer most interest in savings 4.25% which is highest, And as per reviews online, after few days of opening the account, in can be turned zero amb) - suggestion courtesy with thanks to kipte.khoka
12) Unity SFB (reason: 6% interest rate) - suggestion courtesy with thanks to sahil1033
13) ....etc to be continued....
________________________________________________________________
Please comment YOUR VIEWS AND SUGGESTION ACCOUNTS, lets find the reason for opening bank accounts in this SO CALLED digital era where everything is zero balance easily (WITH HIDDEN COST)
Side note: Lets not consider zero balance as valid reason lol (not against zero balance but they dont offer much when its zero balance so avoiding that perk reasoning in this list), apart from zero balance perks please find some other valid reason to jot down the list you would like to open bank account for?
any banks you like to add to this list and what is the purpose you consider to MAINTAIN that particular bank account for?
please DO COMMENT or UPVOTE if you want many to comment
(side note: once this post is non editable I will add the future updated list as the last/latest comment in this post so keep "commenting" your new find of reason:) hehehe lets make use of it all xD and dont forget to follow/bookmark this thread for continuous auto update notification)
- Sort By
yes heard it is good easy zero balance and credit card offers
but the down side is FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT AWARE on how to use bank account, they charge TOO MUCH on fees as VAS, which is not good for maintaining usually, are you sure Kotak 811 is good?
Side note: now no more kotak 811 i.e dead, can't open because of RBI restriction:) which might take another 6 months to 2 years approx to restore (my speculation)
NSDL Payment Bank for Rupay Platinum Debit card. (Zero balance Account with Zero fee on Debit card). Monthly maintenance charges is ₹5.90
Oh yes:) true:) let me add to the list:) thanks for the suggestion:)
let me explain my experience
1st time visit - when asked for opening account they said 25k minimum balance
my reply - okay i will do it soon
2nd time visit in 3 months approx - when asked for opening account with 25k with hot cash, they said 50k minimum balance
my reply - okay and left lol
ICICI just looks for cash cow lol no good perks i even heard from the ICICI bank account holders many hold account because of Salary account is forced by many corporates in ICICI
hmm thats my personal experience
so how to trust them when they are changing rules of AMB in a whim and not really interested in customer but cows?
fun fact - cherry on top: when I asked for 10k AMB ICICI account they (ICICI STAFFS) were showing face like with expression -> we are not offering anything to you, you poor guy
now think of an answer:P
(if i am wrong do correct me anyone:) so that I can add ICICI to list as a useful bank account to have)
Why not SBI....Zero balance account, free virtual debit card, good net banking. Just don't forget the passwords ...Else branch
oh yes king/queen of all banks xDDD forgot that omg hehehehe
Let me add to the list:)
side note: I think, I got biased and forgot it, since i was not holding account in SBI but my mother is:) thanks for reminding me:))
RBL with signature+ DC
Indusind INDIE best for megastar
Federal Bank Jupiter I am customer since 2021 never faced any issue
1) RBL is good:) with their step up slab of interest rate I heard,
I have few doubts - signature + DC is good for paying credit card bills but is the joining fee for Signature +DC worth it? i mean we can get that from 750+GST hdfc platinum debit card, comparatively HDFC wins over RBL in practical common man usage hmmmm
2) Indusind - I heard they are messing up upgrade and downgrade from megastar now and then with not much customer support
(please correct me if I am wrong in the above points:) let see different views to find a good best solution)
3) Federal Bank Jupiter I am not aware of except Edge CSB credit card UPI card - is CSB credit card worth to have?
I mean what is the perk of using Federal bank when i can simply have HDFC over it?
I had many before.. but closed one by one due to inactivity.
Now holding
HDFC - salary
SBI - zero balance
IDFC - SAVINGS
DBS - pending to close
Paytm - merchant account
Airtel - offers
interesting list:)
hmm so out of these bank accounts you hold, what is the unique feature that attracted you to retain these bank accounts only WITHOUT CLOSING
can you specify the unique benefits of each account? so lets see if they are worth it
SBM: For hassle free US broker transfers
SBM i think they stopped US$ transactions
the US account transfer for "IND MONEY US broker account" is initially backed by SBM but now its changed to federal
are you sure SBM is still in US$ transactions?
Also, very underrated feature:
National bank closest to your house.
You see, banking relationships are for lifetime.
It's a great convenience when a Bank branch is near by.
There would be many scenarios when you need to physically visit the branch.
Be it for DD, Cheque deposits, large amount withdrawals/ credit, loans, address change, KYC update.
Although some of the banks have had great support to do this remotely, you would be required to visit for some reason or other.
(only exception was Citi bank, but it's now moved to Axis for retail users)
So, bank closest to your place of residence ❤️
Good thinking:) I 100% agree:) what you said is the first rule of thumb to start looking for bank account indeed:) 😄 I too do this way only
adding info: the point of this post is about "finding" bank with good savings accounts features so that we can try to find if these "good bank account" "branches" are near our homes:) or near our work place:) -> which you mentioned as next step:)
so trying to compile this list here:) for future dimers:)
My current portfolio of Savings A/C :
-
HDFC Bank Imperia (Salary, 0 MAB) :
Main account
-
SBI (0 MAB) :
Because one should have it and it was probably the second account I opened after PNB
-
PNB (2k MAB) :
First account opened and will change the variant to Elite Savings A/C which has QAB of Rs. 50k and offers LTF RuPay Select DC
-
Paytm Payments Bank :
Used to transact for small UPI transactions but not using now
-
Bandhan Bank (5k MAB) :
For FDs (decent rate) and parking emergency fund
-
Unity Small Finance Bank (10k MAB) :
For FDs (highest rate) and parking emergency fund (strictly no crossing 5L mark including principal and interest amount)
-
Bank of Baroda Super Savings (20k MAB) :
For FYF RuPay Select DC & FREE virtual RuPay Platinum DC
-
IDFC First Bank Wealth (10k MAB variant offered as zero balance account now converted to Wealth) :
Simply wanted to experience the banking services but was also a lucrative offer as zero balance account as well as got FIRSTap RuPay Platinum DC for 99 + GST as introductory offer.
-
DBS Bank (10k MAB) :
Opened it way back in 2018 for its Big Basket co-branded debit card offering good discount on Big Basket but now, Pluxee (formerly Sodexo) is my go-to payment method on Big Basket ... wanted to close but since DBS Bank started offering RuPay Platinum DC at annual AMC of Rs. 150 + 18% GST, keeping it alive for now else it will be the first one to be closed as soon as they raised AMC of DC
-
NSDL Payments Bank :
For FREE virtual RuPay Platinum DC with monthly fee of Rs. 5 + 18% GST
-
Kotak Mahindra Bank Everyday (15k MAB) :
Comes with Everyday RuPay Platinum DC with slightly high AMC of Rs. 250 + 18% GST and offers 30% off upto Rs. 1,000 on EazyDiner once in 8 days which is what it makes a great DC.
According to me, must have savings account would be Bank of Baroda Lite Savings A/C and Kotak Mahindra Bank Everyday Savings A/C ... both of them offer good value, must have in my opinion.
Nice portfolio you hold:)
1) HDFC - good:)
2) SBI - good:)
3) PNB 2k MAB is nice but 50K QAB amount just to keep debit LTF, is kinda high i think because Rupay Select LTF lets assume its annual cost is 500 (i dont know) but 50k for waving of 500 (opportunity cost is high i think) just saying
4) Paytm bank is dead and closed now
5) Bandhan bank - ah FD rate nice nice Keep it below 5lakhs though to be safer
6) USFB bank ah this bank you are managing that 5 Lakh limit good:P xD nice way:)
7) BoB super savings sounds very nice:) for 20 MAB
8) IDFC First bank dont have any thing rewarding as far as i know after devaluation so have to analyze this
9) DBS Bank ah just as i thought no good hmm not much good Credit card they have as well so not worth but as you said Rupay platinum DC is good:)
10) NSDL - good:)
11) Kotak - good:) hopefully they dont put lot of miserable charges since you are maintaining AMB of 15k
btw these are my opinion:) please correct me if i am wrong some where in my opinon as that will help:))
Indusind Exclusive savings account
If you have a Pinnacle credit card, then this account will have zero MAB & debit card will also be LTF, Debit card have zero forex markup charges & unlimited zero ATM withdrawal charges worldwide, Debit card have good offers on bigbasket, movie tkts etc
Pinnacle card have joining fees only, for which we will get vouchers in return and no renewal fees
let me add it to the list with condition of pinnacle card, i doubt many can easily get access to pinnacle card easily but who has access to pinnacle card is good:)
by end of the discussion, all banks except a few will be in the list, just remember my words.
I agree with you:)
Well this post is not really about banks:) its really about SAVINGS BANK ACCOUNT VARIANT FEATURES that are worth to open account for (this post will help everyone to know best variants)
so its fine if it includes most of the bank (we will get to know the features of best account in them instead of normal savings account opened without any knowledge)
Hdfc- classic account total 0 balance
icici- salary account total 0 balance
sbi- regular account total 0 balance (virtual dc only)
Bob- regular account total 0 balance (virtual dc only)
*Total 0 means no MAB needed, free debit card, free sms alerts
Good list of accounts:)))
hmm most of the people i came across have "ICICI salary account" than the "ICICI normal account" hmmmm (just pointing out)
What about RBL Aspire?
They offer most interest in savings
Charges link: aspire-banking.pdf (drws17a9qx558.cloudfront.net)
What is the interest rate offered in RBL Aspire?? can you share would be helpful:)
it seems we need to maintain 1lakh AMB , so want to check ROI, so kindly share interest rate offered:)
1.Federal bank selfie acc zero mab used for federal offers & debit card is basic only charges 150 /anum that too wavied on 50k spends....
2. Kotak 811 zero balance/zero bal NO CHARGES in last 7+ yrs . even got debit card which is ltf as there was some offer when they launched it have cc

5. Apb & ppb for lia value transactions

I literally hate axis for that , so now i changed my most of my transactions to HDFC
Apb & ppb for lia value transactions? what is Lia value transactions?
jioanupt
Oh IOB offers good exchange rate?? can you elaborate please would be greatly helpful:)
I guess another like NSDL coming as suggested by @abhishek012 and that's with free rupay platinum DC and GalGal app...
galgal app was wallet but now it is trying to mingle with this cosmos bank hmm seems debit card has charges too hmmm dont know where it goes
and some says cosmos bank is almost bank ruputed in past in that post by @abhishek012 , ahmmm lets see how it goes , now its just in waitlist i guess
Swiss Bank green money account & phurrr later
1) will Swiss Bank offer interest rate?
2) what is the procedure to open account in Swiss bank and hope our money is not considered black money lol once we deposited our hard earned income into Swiss account
some article link: Swiss Bank Accounts For Foreigners Explained - moneyland.ch
I was shocked to see SBI on this list.
The worst experience you can ever get from any bank in India.
Equally surprised to see no ICICI Bank on this list.
Offcourse I hold a salary account.
SBI internet banking and app is very nice (even though multiple OTP is headache)
Well whats bad about SBI account? their branch service is bad i agree but other than that hmm their app and other internet banking services are quite good:)
ICICI is worst in branch service too:) - they dont value customer lol like how SBI is:) so both are same in a way:)
atleast SBI is good with its offers and things, better than ICICI offers:)
hmm anything you feel worthy in "NORMAL SAVINGS BANK ICICI ACCOUNT"? (in comparison to HDFC or IndusInd)
Does anybody have Axis Bank Easy Access Bank Account?
Is it good? And what benefits it offers??
thats the normal 12k account i think, not much useful , it was good before but now too much charges on Axis Bank for everything
hmm no benefit i can think of
any others please suggest:)

Among the scheduled commercial banks (SCBs), only three came out on top (Category A). These are: IDFC First Bank, AU Small Finance Bank and Bandhan Bank. IDFC First Bank has 14 services where its charges are exceptionally low or zero.Next in terms of low charges is AU SF Bank, which does not charge for mandatory SMS alerts, charges less for online IMPS compared to at-branch IMPS and has a comparatively lower requirement for an average monthly balance. Bandhan Bank is the only bank apart from State Bank of India (SBI) with zero average monthly or quarterly balance requirements. Separately, two large cooperative banks, Saraswat Bank and SVC Cooperative Bank, also have low charges.
On average, charges at Canara Bank and Axis Bank are the highest, putting them in the lowest category (Category D). Canara Bank ranked lowest in the study for its extremely high service charges for services like 'DD Cancellation', 'Self-Generation of ATM PIN', 'mandatory-SMS alerts' and 'non-maintenance of average balance' in rural areas. Axis Bank has relatively higher charges, with a few outlier charges for 'non-maintenance of balance' in metro and urban accounts, 'non-financial transactions from own bank ATMs' and 'failed Standing Instruction’. Among public sector banks (PSBs), State Bank of India emerged as the best but is still in the B-category
You can reset with your Debit card and account details online. No need to visit branch. Facility is available for years now.
@RememberMe... @DEEPANGEORGE
Yes true
but for me the password issues is entirely kind of different - kinda unique since I never used mom's SBI internet banking portal for 10 years after setting user id and password (didnt even given email id that time), then when i used forgot password after 10 years, had issues saying mobile number is not preset in bank account but it is present in bank account as I can use that mobile number in phone banking toll free to get balance so clearly mobile number is linked but not properly linked in core banking system
So had to visit SBI and their response was so poor that I had to visit 3 times again and again to get it resetted by using their assistant manager to reset everything on internet banking with their powers i guess and then only password was able to be reset using OTP online
I would suggest a simple buy great portfolio of savings account:
1. SBI - 0 balance - Great Network, Low cost, can get locker facilities at affordable prices, public sector bank so more confidence…
2. HDFC Bank - One might choose this as a salary account just because of the fact that HDFC offers some of the best CCs in the Indian Market.
3. A Payments Bank - 0 cost/very low cost - Just in case if the other banks don’t work and for basic everyday UPI transactions so that above bank statements are clean.
best one for paying credit card bills?
1) HDFC (cashback as reward),
2) IndusInd (cashback as reward),
3) and lastly if you dont mind vouchers as reward then RBL
If i forgot anything, like other bank account good for paying credit card bill please suggest anyone:)
AU Small fin Bank's AU Digital account is 0 balance & gives Rupay Platinum DC (150+GST).
A no frills good choice, account can be opened online.
Thanks for the nice suggestion:) interesting:)
but i wonder the following
1) AU keeps changing their T&C a lot I heard, hmm like minimum balance needed and not needed kinda thing for additional features (are you sure AU bank is good?)
2) Is this better than NSDL Payment Bank (already listed in this post)
Zero balance Account with Zero fee on Rupay Platinum Debit card. Monthly maintenance charges is ₹5.90
@DEEPANGEORGE @tappukepapa one week ago i got legend credit card, today i received a msg about "indusind advantage savings bank account with zero balance" , I want to know is this account is actually zero balance or there are any hidden charges, and if i should go for this account or open select account and link it with legend to make it free , pls give me valuable inputs...🙏🏻
I dont have indusInd relationship so can't confirm sadly
if possible check the T&C of that offer that is sent to you for any hidden charges
one thing is confirm by dimers is Legend is making select account free
I am not sure about indusind advantage account
Also, very underrated feature:
