That's exactly, what makes SMS based OTP more secure than email based OTP.  wink

Many banks anyway do not provide otp on email, but only via sms.. Axis bank will cite this and get away with it...

This is a very bad change and as always, many clueless idiot banks have no idea of what "security" really means. A dozens apps on your phone have access to read your SMS. Email is no less secure than SMS unless you are a total idiot and giving random apps/services access to your email. Email sign in also has 2-factor authentication and TOTPs.

Now only a few banks left which send OTP on email: SBI Card, IndusInd, RBL, BOB and Amex for credit cards. For debit cards, Kotak and Federal Bank still send email OTP which is good

TOTPs are secure and a good alternative but note that the USER EXPERIENCE of these apps is beyond terrible. SBI YONO, BOB, IndusInd Indie and such banks already have TOTP but the experience is so bad that I would rather not use these apps to get the TOTP.
