Indian railways nowadays become very chaotic and unbearable even for reserved seat customers

You may heard news of deaths due to rush during diwali and chhath, but day to day travel is also become very difficult in these trains

Let's understand the reason behind it

In past railway passenger rake had 4 general coaches around 12-13 sleeper coaches and 4-5 AC coaches but now most of the long distance trains are running with only 4 sleeper class coaches 2 general coaches and 13 AC coaches

These trains cover around 1500-2500 kilometer distance in a run and stop on almost every city railway station, you can imagine how only two general coaches going to fulfil requirement of a 2000 km travel, due to heavy rush general class travellers are forced to board sleeper class which is already out of capacity but TTE allows them to stay in sleeper class by charging hefty fine ( they don't tell them to leave reserved coach but say ticket banwalo) and those who paid for ticket have to do struggle for moving inside the train even toilet access gets restricted people sleeping on train floor sitting  in toilets and what not.....

You do understand pvt companies are only for profit.

And as soon as railway is privatized, they will hike the prices.

Railways is in loss since years, it usually recovers only 57% of average fare.

But i see the other way....it is a very sad reality that we Indians donot follow rules....why these general class ticket holders board reserved coaches?....isn't it against the rules?....If there are any emergencies,then it is okay...but other morons just board whatever coaches they see and sit wherever they can see a empty seat....they are an absolute thrash to deal with....these people are mostly drunkards and sleep wherever they find space.....its a big pain in the arse for the TTE too to deal with such idiots....Our country would be more nice if all us follow all the rules and be responsible....

Not only here, be in road manners, or keeping our place tidy....almost 95 percent of us dont give a damn sheet and jeep ruining our country..... Its sad but real....

This 57% of fee from each passenger is a stupid joke.

They don't even refund complete amount for wait listed tickets. Robbing a bit each from the innumerous waitlisted people.

And the general tickets they issue also is limitless even for just two compartments, I wonder how many people they think they can accommodate in the two dabbas.

And for robbing double charges for each berth in the name of RAC, the less said the better.

Yes. It's true. Now a days travelling in sleeper class even with reserved ticket is extremely troublesome, Especially during special occasions. Your observation is right. For getting more money govt. increasing ac coaches by reducing other ones. 

The situation will become worse year after year as the population keep on exploding.

These jugaads are very common in trains and you may see many such jugaads in future given the worst situation of Indian trains, 

People are sitting in toilets for 20-20 hours without moving, eating drinking in the same stinky space at the same time blocking urine and 🚽 of other passengers for hours in future vendors will be selling diapers inside train

Now upper middle class people started to book ac instead of sleeper due to better safety and less unwanted unreserved people boarding. Demand for ac coaches jumped a lot due to increase in spending power of people and now ac tickets become very affordable. I think very soon sleeper class will be removed completely and  allocated those place to general class and ac 3.

Now ac 3 become new sleeper class.

What do you think by removing general and sleeper coaches Indian railway will stop them? Will they stop sitting in sleeper ? now TTE never tells these unreserved people to leave sleeper coach rather they make tickets for them and allow them to travel in fully occupied out of capacity sleeper class legally, in one such incident I was traveling in a sleeper coach recently, TTE were running around nine of TTE checked my all the were asking ticket banwana hai ticket banwana hai aapko? And were making full journey tickets and general ticket price was not included in price which means 250 penalty and from trains source to passengers destination ticket,

Reducing general and sleeper coaches will deteriorate the situation more and this disease will will become epidemic

mainly this thing happening in North India, especially in Bihar (huge rush in Sleeper Coaches)

here people's mentality is that without a ticket they want to travel even long distances. So, how can the railway without any transaction start a new train as per the requirement?

now you say they are giving money to tt in this maximum people who already take a general ticket and then come on sleeper class but on general coach maximum number of passengers didn’t take ticket this thing is problem

Reducing sleeper coaches main reason they earn from AC coaches so in the long run for safety, speed & money they will.

and the government also gets this type of feedback that here people only want to travel in ac coaches or flights why I am saying this is I am staying here and on the ground, every person of Bihar wants an airport in his/her city.

in future, you will see three to four types of train
1. Only General Coach Train
2. Only Sleeper Coach Train
3. Only AC Coach Train
4. Only Chair Car Coach Train

Yes its painful to see reduced general and sleeper class coaches in a train. Majority still cannot afford ac class of travel. Sudden reduction in coaches has resulted in sleeper class crowd, specially now regular affair post covid. Govt in future is planningto run only two types of trains, one full ac and another full general class.Vande bharat and vande sadharan are the example of them. But till then its tough to manage unreserved class.

Many passenger trains have been converted to express train and express trains to superfast. Many are cancelled in winter for 2-3 months. 

My helpers and maid who belong to Bihar tell that earlier they used to run special and duplicate trains during festival and holiday season but now they only sell many tickets for general boggies. Even after reservation berth is occupied by someone else. They say they want to vist home place and willing to pay but where are general trains or facilities they have limited budget. They have to often birbe just to travel even after buying tickets.

The train which was classified as ordinary train and stopped at every small halt or station is now renamed to express and due to this renaming their fare is now increased to express trains fare 

Ordinary class for local train is abolished this is how common man is being serviced what was the need of renaming an ordinary passenger train to express train ?

To brag that we are running thousands of express trains in India and at the same time extorting more money by giving third class service

This situation of overcrowding in trains in sleeper class and general class is mainly in north Indian trains especially trains going to UP, Bihar, Bengal and from these states to other states. I have stopped using sleeper coaches since 2012 in route from my city to delhi due to overcrowding of sleeper class. In one compartment where I counted 22 people's traveling, sleeping on floor and on one seat 2-3 people travelling together. The journey of 17 hours in summer was hell for me and my friend who were in RAC sharing one seat throughout the journey and in day time people use to seat on your seat no matter whether you have reserved the seats. After that we vow never to travel through sleeper class and started travelling through 3rd AC since then. Now I feel 3rd AC is now become sleeper class of year before 2012. 

I travelled through sleeper class this year from Chennai to Kanyakumari and back, Chennai to Rameswaram and back, Chennai to Pondicherry and on 2S from Kanyakumari to Thiruvananthapuram and I found that there was no overcrowding and it was quite comfortable journey.

So from my experience I can say that this overcrowding is issue in mostly north Indian states.

Those   who don't  know  about trains  , ask there parents  or geand parents  about  it .

Specially   up  bihar   trains .

These  problem  is not  new  but  on the contrary improved than previous.

I think for last 5-6 years no one in my family has travelled in train because every time trains are full and tatkal booking is very difficult. When I  contact an agent he generally ask 3 times the fair.

On the contrary,in the same span of time,I have traveled more than 12 times booking tatkal tickets using IRCTC app/website.Though a lot of work is still need to be done,tbh tatkal ticket booking has become super easy in the past few years,thanks to few radical changes, updated servers,introduction of new trains and Vikalp facility.
While a lot depends on a particular route,mostly all you require is proper planning and execution.Please Visit

If I talk about the school infront of my house, it was a dystopian hell house pre 2014, now it's a well managed institute. Similarly, govt hospitals here have become very efficient post 2014. 3AC is the only profitable class for railway ironically 1A/2A is not profitable overall + railway cant increase fare for sleeper general due to vote bank + too much pressure to make railway profitable hence now they officially changing all ICF coach to LHB ones with heavy reduction of sleeper compartments and increased 3AC 


i think sleeper is profitable now if they starts adding those fines they get from general people, this people used to travel for very cheap in general coaches but now pay hefty fines to travel worse than general coaches

Indian railways earn profit only by transporting minerals(like coal) and other cargo. Those profits are used to subsidize ticket fare for general and sleeper compartments(even ac compartments are not that much profitable bcz of seating arrangements and half occupancy)

Saying that, they shouldn't increase ticket fair but govt. should reimburse extra amount to Indian railways to add extra trains bcz they have minimal carbon footprint. Hell, if govt. is prepared to spend thousands of crores on bullet train project(just google how much amount it requires), why not subsidize existing tickets with our taxes.

Those who think we travel in ac Hume kya then wait, due to shortage of general and sleeper bogies uski bheed ab third ac mein bhi ghusna shuru ho gayee hai soon 3rd ac will be chaotic and many unwanted and unreserved travellers will occupy seats and make it look like general class

Govt should run additional ac special trains if they want money but atleast they should not reduce Sleeper and general coaches of existing  train setups if GN, and SL coaches cannot be increased

This called upgrade they introduced 3ac economy 100-200 rs cheaper than 3ac .

And personal experience now days sleeper is become general class people with general ticket forcefully enter to sleeper class and disturb the reserve seats even tc did not come to throw out them . Some times 2-3 times candidate in coach specially train related to bihar

But reducing sleeper coach not good for middle class

Reduce Population by very strict rules, one child policy for 10years mandatory or 2 child policy.

Those not ready to accept should be sent life imprisonment.

Kick out millions of illegal immigrants.

Extra policies in need immediately -

Introduce One Nation One Syllabus

So that children could learn discipline and moral values, ethics, behaviour, control etc.

Mandatory Military Service 1 year after school.

Corruption free system. Death penalty for corrupts.

If my above points are implemented

We will conquer Universe, because the rest of world will not even dare to stare.

Same trains are running now also but with nefarious motive to harass those who can't  afford AC ticket 

There was no need to alter coach combination which was atleast manageable to a blind eye extortion promoting and  harassing coach combination 

If AC coach demand increasing that doesn't means that SL and GN class demand is decreasing, SL and GN class walo ka hissa chheen kar AC coaches badhaye ja rahe ha,

Agar AC customers badh Raha hai to Ac special trains chalao 

Ek train jisme 13 sleeper 4 ac and 4 general coaches hote the uske combination ko reverse karke 13 AC 4 sleeper and 2 general kar diya and blame population ko Kiya ja Raha hai 

Agar GN and SL coaches badha nahi sakte to Kam bhi mat karo 

Government ne sirf AC coaches increase kiye iska matlab AC mein rahne wale population badha rahe hai to kya  sterilization ki muhim AC coaches se shuru hogi 

GN and SL Coaches should be restored to their original combination or equal to AC coaches reducing capacity and blaming population is ridiculous

I think it's not the problem created by Indian Railways. It's the dynamic change after corona.

People are travelling more than often compared to the old days. The number of general passengers increased by a large factor. Purchasing power of people has increased. Now coming to the Trains, yes they reduced the number of available sleeper coaches. But at the same time 3AC trains have increased. People who can afford 3AC still booking SL class which is depriving labour class of traveling in SL class.

Most of the unreserved passengers Travelling in SL are labourers. They cannot plan in advance. Even the complete tatkal tickets cannot suffice them. We need seperate trains for them. A complete sleeper train for these people.

And those who can afford to travel in higher class, just travel in them. Let's make railways a better place.

And in future except a few trains(hardly 100) no train will have a travel time of 12hrs/900kms. Long distance travellers will be forced to take domestic planes. Be prepared.
