Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh on Monday tendered his resignation to chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, reports said.
Deshmukh’s resignation comes after the Bombay high court ordered a CBI probe following a plea by former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh.
“I don’t have the moral right to continue in office after the court order.I have decided to quit. Kindly relieve me from my post,” Deshmukh’s resignation letter said.
State minister and NCP leader Nawab Malik said Deshmukh did not want to remain in the post and tendered his resignation to the chief minister.
“After the high court order, home minister Anil Deshmukh met Pawar and party leaders and said he doesn’t want to remain in the post. He went to tender his resignation to the CM. Party has requested to the CM to accept his resignation,” Malik said.
The Bombay high court on Monday directed the CBI to conduct a preliminary inquiry within 15 days into allegations of corruption and misconduct levelled by former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh against Anil Deshmukh.
A bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice G S Kulkarni said this was an “extraordinary” and “unprecedented” case that warranted an independent inquiry.
“The state government has already ordered a probe by a retired judge into the claims but we respect the judiciary and after the court orders, Deshmukh himself said he doesn’t wish to continue,” Malik said, referring to his party colleague.
After Deshmukh’s resignation the home department will be with the chief minister, who would decide after consulting the MVA allies on who would be the new home minister, he said.
There is speculation that Dilip Walse Patil, another NCP minister, may get the Home portfolio.
State BJP chief Chandrakant Patil said he is happy that Deshmukh has quit, adding there will be many “shocking revelations” in the CBI probe.
“Those who make mistakes should be punished or else democracy won’t be strengthened. Many skeletons will tumble out after the 15-day CBI preliminary parobe,” he said.

There’s a reason why everyone (including the blind supporters 
) ignore the jixxdi topic poster in political section.. If someone is aspiring to be the same (/ is already), what else we can do?
