Airtel has been hacked by a China based threat actor. He listed 37.5 crore airtel customer's data including their Aadhaar numbers for sale. The actor who listed this data for sale on breach forums, is now suspended on the forum. India's Data Protection Act is still not active.

Data privacy is not strictly enforced in India... Specific privacy laws have to be introduced like other countries. With Digital India journey this is much needed

Correct, bas ek strict aur efficient law, law enforcement ke aatey hee, phir tou ek bhi data leak, paper leak nahin hoga.

in this one, there is no verification or authenticity yet.

By the way, any agent/retailer or shop that processes SIM replacement requests.. too get access to names and so on.

Like of one walks into a store or retsilshop that SIM of x×x×x×x×x× is damaged and needs to be replaced

immediately upon checking in the TelCo's application/ software .. retailer/shop keeper will see the name of the customer and require live photograph and a photocopy of the ID proof.
Even retailer can thus see the data like address, photograph.

I smh when people say that their app and data is encrypted. The Chinese are keeping eyes on everyone. Last year they released data of loksabha members too but that news was buried very quickly.

Translation: where you expecting them to confirm/ agree to this? [When people even do not agree to local currency depreciating and rather claim the foreign currency is appreciating and not the INR depreciating.. expecting Bharti Airtel or any such big group which spends billions on security systems to confess upfront is an unrealistic expectation. Even old investors will start revaluing the company at lesser valuations. Taking loans/debt would turn even more pricey. Not to mention the PR nightmare.]

Having said that, I agree that India needs more stringent laws & more agressive cyberwarfare strategy. Lekin aisa laws aayega to phir dee-moo-ka-racy ka RR karne wale dhapli bajane lagega.
