new AirPods are called AirPods 4 not 4th gen. Apple explains how important the shape of AirPods is, reason is that it enables earbuds to fit as many people as possible. Apple says that it analysed thousands of ear shapes for "the most comfortable AirPods ever" with the H2 chip inside. AirPods 4 will cost $129 and $179 and will be available for preorder starting today, go on sale from September 20. New colours in AirPods: Black, Blue, Purple and Orange. There's also the update to USB-C, but so far no mention of H2 chip.

AirPods Pro 2 gets new features

No new AirPods Pro -- but new exclusive features for AirPods Pro -- AirPods Pro to get new features to improve hearing health focused Prevention, Awareness, Assistance. Apple says that AirPods 2 can be now be used as a clinical grade hearing aid.

This year the regular AirPods get a lot of love from Apple. In fact, the AirPods 4 is the only pair that gets a meaningful hardware upgrade this year. They now come in two variants - standard AirPods 4 and AirPods 4 Active Noise Cancellation.
