Many times I thought that getting groceries from online stores like Amazon pantry, Flip-kart, Big basket, Grofers will save some of my rupees, Considering different sales and bank offers. I tried that for some time. But it never turned out that way.
So I thought let's do an actual price comparison for a month's grocery.
This month I bought a month's grocery from D-Mart and listed out its actual price from 4 major online grocery stores.
And Here is the actual price comparison.
* Few items I did not find in some online stores, so I took average from other competitors.
You can clearly see that an offline store is cheaper than any of the online stores.
Even if you add up any bank 10% discount, still there is around Rs. 300 difference.
More ever, you can have touch and feel and inspect the product before you buy, which is still missing in online stores.
Also, there are other soft benefits in offline store like, human interaction , Thought it is not suggest these days, but in any other day it's more important
This is just my observation, you may have other views on this, but for me offline stores are more beneficial and convenient
at least in the grocery segment.

So the company didn’t knew while giving orange cash that they run to make profit? They realised suddenly?
Very valid statement , “shopping is not an exercise to save money, It is an experience and everybody looks at it differently”.
And yes, if you have offline store like D-Mart or any other local wholesale store, give it a try and see the price difference.
Also Agree to the point the many may not have such offline option available and due to time or any other constraint not able to do offline purchase. For them, with my experience Grofer/Big basket is still better than Amazon and Flipkart.
VU kg+ for efforts. I buy grains and pulses from local wholesale shops only. Rest from bigbasket in these corona days.
Eggzactlee.. one need to learn how to get the best of both the world. Although, its too much person and convenience specific. Some don’t bother to pay that extra for various reasons.. splly to whom =💰.
@cancob is correct. The prices quoted by you for platforms other than Dmart are incorrect. I have been shopping from these platforms since long so i observe the price difference across various platforms very closely. Trust/Mawana sugar is always available on Amazon @ ~ 44 and 5kg pack costs even cheaper but you mentioned 54. Tata Agni you mentioned 240 but it costs ~ 210 on Amazon. Likewise many other items. The golden rule is that you should be aware of offline prices. Compare prices amongst various online platforms & buy if you think the price difference justifies the quality. For eg Poha you buy from offline & poha you buy from Amazon/BigBasket has huge quality difference. Try the Vedka Premium Kabuli Chana and the chana you get offline, there’s huge quality difference. If you want same chana offline then price difference is same. Cheaper is not always better.

i hv also found same difference in grocery prices.i compared amazon pantry walmart best price jio mart and near by cash counter n found that cash counter quality and prices are far better than other
In present situation, the minimal human interaction is the first requirement. And online stores score high there. Also, most online stores have different cashback/discount schemes which are not factored in this comparison. The cost of transportation again is a factor, particularly in these times. People are willing to pay a little more to have things home delivered, without exposing them to additional risks of infection.
Also, DMart is not available every where, so more appropriate comparison would be with Big Bazaar.
For amazon, after considering 10% cashback, the net cost comes to 2691.
For bigbasket, minimum 5% to 10% discounting is readily available by either different payment methods or through use of GV. Even at 5%, the net cost comes to 2693.
Add Kotak Essentia card in Dmart and you get 10% discount more. Dmart is the king of prices.
But it has high annual charges and joining fees.
You can use price difference challenge in grofers and get back the difference.
A very loyal customer of Dmart since the past 5-7 years
Dmart is only slightly less expensive than others.
Wholesale markets are lot cheaper (2-3 times) than Dmart but its not always viable for busy city dwellers.
you forgot jiomart. its loose dals item are qualutywise OK and cheapest here in delhi .. and Dmart is not
This is my first month with Essentia.
Pt. 2 —> I read here at DD only that bigbasket wallet is counted as Dept. Store.
Pt. 1 —> Redemption is cash based – 1 point = 1 Re.
Return would be 7% in first year. From second year 8.75% considering you are spending 5K per month exclusively on groceries and total spend is 60K/annum.
Offline shops are looters in my area I order only from Amazon pantry Prices on amazon pantry is always cheaper than offline market I compared once for a 5k bill It costed 4.5 k on amazon with bank discount and it costed 5.5k on offline store Offline stored provided local goods Online provided Good quality Branded products like Borges, Fortune Offline people don’t care about ur health They will kill u for a 5 ruppees profit Amazon only supplies Genuine suppliers
I order from Amazon, Jiomart, Flipkart, Dmart, Grofers and BigBasket. I do bulk purchase (3 months stock in one go) and make purchase across all these sites to get the best price+stock.
That’s a good habit to buy at ago, specially during pandamic, cause the less interaction with others, the more safe you will be….
Thanks it helps me a lot.
