Offer Details
  1. Cashback of 20% on utility bill amount, upto Rs. 250/-.
  2. On the first utility bill paid by credit card holders, every calendar month, during the period 1st April 2023 to 31st March 2024.
  3. Utilities – Gas / Electricity / Telecom / DTH

The availability of the offer is based on the following criteria
1. Offer is valid to all credit card holders in this period.
2. Transactions through wallets using credit card are not eligible for the offer. E.g. PAYTM
3. The offer will be valid for transaction made from mobile app and web portal of the respective utility vendors.

4. The transaction may be feasible on the app or portal as per the payment gateways.
5. The cash back will be credited to card statement in the subsequent billing cycle.

Got an email from Saraswat Bank today with the offer details. I checked their website and the offer has gone live. Apparently, the offer was live since 1st April 2023 but not advertised. Thus, we lost a chance to earn Rs 250 cashback for each of the last 3 months 😔

I got my Saraswat  Credit Card (Secured) this year in February and used the offer twice since the previous offer was only valid from 1st Apr 20222 to 31st March 2023.

There tends to be a small surcharge (1%) from the utility provider in some cases but the cashback was posted both times in the next month without any issues.

To get the maximum benefit the payment should be around Rs 1250. Anything above that and the percentage savings go below 20%. Anything under that and you are letting go off the Rs 250 threshold since it works only for the first utility bill payment of the month.

In case anyone is planning to get a Saraswat Credit Card, here are some other disadvantages and advantages too.

Disadvantages -
1) In-person application
2) Bank account / FD necessary
3) Paperwork and slow card issuance - mine took 45 days.
4) Bank account will get you a debit card with annual charges of around Rs 250-300. There are also SMS charges. Mine are around Rs 5-10 every quarter.
5) Rewards points ratio is not good. You get 1 RP per Rs 100 spent and 4RP = Rs 1 for voucher redemptions. So that's only a 0.25% rewards ratio.
6) The bank itself never has any offers like the big banks
7) The savings account /FD app is different from the credit card app

Advantages -
1) You do get 500 points on card issuance and 300 on first transaction. You can redeem for Amazon Shopping, Flipkart vouchers at 4RP = Rs 1 rate.
Check https://www.saraswatbankreward...m/
2) If they issue you a Visa debit card for your savings account, the app lets you create a virtual RuPay debit card (Platinum) that you can use for the Amazon 20% off up to Rs 100 offer once every month on Fridays offer. If they issue you are RuPay debit card (Platinum), the app lets you create a virtual VISA debit card.
3) The RuPay CC works on all RuPay offers. I have used it on eazyDiner and BigBasket.

Bro fees and charges for card?

The PostMighty The PostMighty
Link Copied

Joining Fees - NIL

Annual Fees - Rs 500. Waived off on secured cards (i.e. backed by a fixed deposit) or on minimum spends of Rs 10,000 for unsecured cards.

Note that the application process is in-person / paper-based and not online. Thus, you need to visit a nearby branch.

For secured credit cards, the credit limit is 80% of the fixed-deposit amount. Mine is Rs 10,000 against a fixed-deposit of Rs 12,500.

Saraswat RuPay Credit Cards are not yet live on RuPay CC on UPI platform as yet.

any idea if they give this card without bank account

The PostMighty The PostMighty

No. They issue the card only for existing / new bank account customers. Yes, I know it is very restrictive. It does not seem like they want to capture a big market share or anything.

🙏🏻I did see your post for last year's offer. I decided against this image since it is unreadable as an icon. Since you have posted it in the thread anyone scrolling through this thread will notice it anyway. I doubt there are more than a few dozens of Dimers who have this card.

How ? simple answer - Virtual and physical RuPay card BIN number is different that's why app allow you to create virtual RuPay Platinum debit card.

2) You can block your old virtual card and create a new one after 7 days. It means per month you can create 4 or 5 new Virtual RuPay Platinum debit cards.

Couple of things

  • This offer is temporary and this ll pass
  • This is not a debit card. And this has annual charges. 10k annual spend based offer is not a milestone to achieve. But what is the reward rate? So, you might have save 100-250 rupees per 10k depending upon the type of credit card (apay, neu plus/infinity, Ace, bob Snapdeal etc).
  • Upon applying the card your credit score ll be hit n upon closing the card the credit score ll be hit again. So, if you are taking it for the sake of offer then please think again.

Happy shopping.

@dexter_greycells Since you took secured card, was there a CIBIL hard enquiry, please check and tell

The PostMighty The PostMighty

Don't kill me but I don't check my CIBIL score. The only time I got a CIBIL report was on signing up for CRED some years ago. I am too lazy to sign up and fetch it. That said the whole point of a secured credit card is that it's issued against a fixed deposit. So even though you may be credit unworthy, they really have no business bothering with your CIBIL score.

Got the answer from Saraswat Bank branch manager since our good friend @dexter_greycells was so prompt to share this info so easily. Yes, a CIBIL hard enquiry will be done even for a secured card.

There are two lines in the T&C that suggest that the answer to your question is "No" -

First line -

Cashback will be provided to either the Primary cardholder or the add-on card holder.

Second line -

Offer is available on the 1st successful transaction done by primary

cardholder on any one of the utility bills (paid first out of Gas /

Electricity / Telecom / DTH) by using Saraswat Bank Credit Card every

calendar month, during the Offer Period from 1st April 2023 to 31st

March 2024 both days inclusive.

Paid first bill today using official website of MSEDCL. Let's see if Saraswat Bank actually gives cashback of ₹250 next month. Btw what is the statement date for this CC? @dexter_greycells

Mine is 25th. The timeline for cashback is a bit of a mystery. I have seen anywhere between 20-40 days but it has come without fail each month. I have done payments from BEST and MGL sites.

I paid my utility bill on 5th Sep. So far it hasn't been credited. I have seen it take up to 45 days.
You never get an SMS. It is a silent credit transaction.
I do not use the Saraswat Credit Card app because it always sends an OTP. I use the website where I can simply login with ID and password. You can see the credit entry there just fine.
