I called Saraswat Bank in Powai, Mumbai

Call picked up during first call itself – a +ve sign

Asked the person, how to apply for Credit Card. After hearing the customary sales pitch, “do you have salary account with us”, “can get against FD” etc, I told the person that I have credit card from other banks w/o any such requirements!

Hearing this, the person said OK, can apply directly too, just come with the following documents:

1)Aadhar 2) PAN 3) Photo 4) Last ITR or 3 months salary slip

Went to my nearby Saraswat Bank branch today to ask about their RuPay Platinum credit card. It's like 5 mins walking distance from my house and there's another branch on the "bank road" ("Bank road" has SBI, HDFC, IDFC, IndusInd, BOB, Axis, Canara, UCO, Indian, Federal, Kotak, RBL, Yes, Saraswat, ICICI, PNB, Tamilnad, TJSB and others on the same road 😄😄😄And BOI, IOB, Central, Karnataka, Cosmos, Union, AU just a few metres away. smile  )

Anyway coming back to the topic, yes this bank's CC requires their bank account. I also asked again about RuPay Platinum debit card and she gave the same reply as earlier - that previously they used to issue RuPay debit cards too but due to chip shortage and majority of customers demanding Visa when issued RuPay by default, they stopped issuing RuPay altogether. I argued that if RuPay CC was still being offered by bank, why not RuPay DC? She made a face and said "Maybe we can put a special request for you". I said ok.

Tomorrow I will go with my KYC docs and open the bank account first and insist on RuPay Platinum DC. Then once account is opened, RuPay CC. There's a good chance this bill discount offer on SB RuPay CC will also be renewed for next FY just like the RuPay Amazon DC offer. Will be a tremendous saving.

You will get Visa Platinum DC. And when you apply for CC, then comes another condition that you can apply for CC only after you maintain their SB account for at least 6 months. (I have read this document in their computer regarding 6 months SB account mandatory for credit card)

Well they have made it quite difficult to get this card and its benefits. First you must have a bank account with them, then wait for few months, and then to really benefit from the 20% for first utility bill offer, the bill amount must be at least ₹850 to cross 10K per year spends, otherwise you will be charged ₹500+GST (I am assuming that if you get a co-operative bank CC, you definitely use other credit cards too for other spends like shopping). You get full ₹250 CB of this if any one of your bills is ₹1250 every month. It's a nice offer/good saving though if one of your bills is always of this value. But then  @Philosopher said, having to fight for cashback every month would be lame.

I simply needed a RuPay CC and  applied for this card in early Jan'23. I had at least a decade old relationship via a savings account. I got the card by late Feb'23 which is around 45 days. I didn't want to risk the minimum annual spend criteria so I went with the secured credit card option which has no AMC  is 80% of the FD you do with them. There were quite a few forms and photocopies that were required. I paid my electricity bill in Feb'23 and gas bill in Mar'23 and got the cashback in around a month with zero follow up. I did pay directly from the utility provider's website. I was disappointed that I applied so late and this offer didn't renew. However, the RuPay CC has already helped me save a over a thousand rupees via the EazyDiner and BigBasket offers over the last 2 months.
