Chyawanprash isn't supposed to 'taste' good.. but rather have all the (nearly 50) ingredients of the right type, quality.. in the right ratio.
Learnt this at Dr. Warrier's Arya Vaidya Sala, Kottakkal.. few decades back.. when went there for treatment.

These silly things.. which are being mass marketed like this are anything but Chyawanprash.

Too much refined sugar and unhygienic, poor quality 'Indian gooseberries' (anvla).

If no sugar than it will taste bitter . And indian gooseberry are not of poor quality why would they when wholesale they get it below Rs 10 a kg.
The Chyawanprash type you are talking about costs nearly Rs 1000 or upwards. For 1 kg.
