• as a brand redmi is quite popular
• for usual use, many in ttier2, tier3 do not mind spending on the 'perceived' value of a 'good looking' phone.
• the 10-12000 rupees price band is like a universal 'all okay', be it for parents,, spouse or as gift (sisters, brothers)
• exchange/resale price on redmi is decent. those in the habit of changing frequent, too prefer it.

Why is this deal so popular? Plenty of other phones with higher specs
