I can't say about Jio Bharat phone but I have a JioPhone (how is Jio Bharat different kindly someone enlighten me). I got that JioPhone in 2020 or something as an additional one to my smartphone as an emergency, used it briefly for calling because Airtel connectivity had become impossible in my area temporarily and I didn't want to port to Jio on the smartphone permanently. Then Airtel fixed their coverage issue in my area so forgot about this phone, didn't recharge it for YEARS. Several years later, I recharged the plan in 2024 because I needed to give it to someone at the airport till security check was complete (NRI). It "just worked" for calls and SMS. No extra charges taken for the recharge, number/SIM was never de-activated temporarily after all these years and number wasn't recycled / permanently disconnected. Despite no recharge for 2+ years. I feel that's a major positive of the JioPhone that I got. Again, JioBharat phone may be different.
Now does that happen with regular prepaid Jio SIMs we get for smartphones if not recharged even once in YEARS after initial use? People have reported mixed experiences. I've heard people reporting that their Jio number got de-activated and eventually recycled. For normal prepaid SIMs in smartphones, as per official T&C https://www.jio.com/jcms/en-in/regul...y/ B. Information related to deactivation due to non usage section, no recharge for 90 days can cause the mobile number to get deactivated at the discretion of Jio ("at the discretion" meaning there can be potentially some cases where number isn't recycled?)
Another issue: is the SIM locked to the phone in JioPhone or Jio Bharat?
Update: As per replies, it's not locked, SIM can be used in other phones. The device is locked to allow Jio SIMs only.
Locked for jio sim means we can only use jio sim in this device...it can be a sim which we are currently using in a smartphone also..right?
What about whatsapp. Can WhatsApp be used on this.
Existing Jio sim card works in this phone?

I see. Anyway, SIM compatibility and device locking side, another plus point for me of this phone in this discussion was that the number was not de-activated. Whereas a Jio SIM in a smartphone is as per T&C (link above).
I don't recommend such ultra cheapo basic phones as a replacement main device for a smartphone but for use cases I mentioned above (where there are connectivity issues or coverage issues in certain areas and recharging secondary SIM only occasionally which has risk of number de-activation due to no recharge for years in between).
It will work only with new jio sim. Existing jio sim will not work. Check reviews. It's very bad.
