I was just thinking why companies launch such kind of so called promotion, rather than not giving upfront discount on purchase?
1) To collect data/ phone numbers?
2) To increase network traffic for operators
3) To boost mobile sale ( as customer who do not have mobile phone, can't participate)
4) To increase customers tolerance and Patience level
5) To add fun element
6) To give some work to customer care and keep them busy.
