I was myself in two minds in deciding on my reply to @slickdeal above (who shared similar thoughts as you, albeit in a much more subtle manner).
Shilajeet, for example, is not that distinctly identified (like say.. the stigma coming out of the pistils of 'crocus sativus'/ saffron crocus flower).
I do not know if LLM tools (like those made by Open A.I.) in the future can do it on their own,
but currently, some enterprising, laborious souls have to manually go up to the 13000-14000 feet heights, to forage for what is finally consumed in the name of shilajeet..
The mined stuff, procured from those heights is almost entirely dependent on the skill, knowledge, experience and the situation/location of the person.
The harvesting can only be done in very limited climatic conditions, for only some months.
The lumps brought down, are then almost always processed by the locals who have been doing this for generations.
The mined stuff is cooked, mixed with jaggery ghee, cow urine (at times) to get the final product.
However there is a massive mismatch between the quantity of shilajeet available in the mountains or rather the quantities processed like so
and the ones available in the market.
Even if the originally mined stuff does not have contaminants heavy metal traces.. there could be (and mostly are) high chances of adulteration once it changes multiple hands.. prior to reaching the consumer.
And mostly the aware people know the sham that goes on in the name of industrially 'manufactured' preparations sold in the name of ayurvedic potions, remedies, supplements.
The way the authorities handle ayurvedic, unani, siddha medications with kid gloves.. has given rise to the audacious scams like those propagated by cunning, for profit foreign entities, example Perfetti Van Melle,
who unashamedly claim that the Happydent 'chewing gum' https://perfettivanmelle.in/ourbrands/happydent is actually a 'proprietary ayurvedic medicine'.
And the authorities have said 'yes, if it is listed as ayurvedic then it is exempt from DPCO'.
In-fact one of THE easiest ways to evade coming under the purview of the Drug Price Control Order https://pharmaceuticals.gov.in/sites/default/files/DPCO1979.pdf has been to claim that the preparation is from the alternate streams of (traditional) medicines.
In-fact tigers and other beings murdered for their bones, testicles and what not, reach Hongkong, Singapore and come back as traditional (Chinese) potions, medicines and EVEN THEY :-( get tax breaks on imports.
