If so, how much money would be needed?

Depends on age and income. Do state yours.
If you are in your 20s, 30s and above sip is the way to go. Invest more in equity than debt.

Lots of factors, current age (starting to invest), risk profile, SIP/lumpsum amount...etc.
But, yes, better than most money instruments if planned and done rightly...

if your target is retirement planning, opt for NPS. Its a combination of 3 mutual funds combined into 1 with admin charges lower than normal mutual funds
