Smartphone Zombies get a Third Eye to avoid Obstacles while using Mobiles on-the-go!
A South Korean industrial designer, Paeng Min-wook (aged 28) has come up with a technological advancement gadget called ‘Third Eye’ for the Smartphone Zombies.
Using mobile phones while walking on the road or travelling has seen severe deadly incidents happen in India and around the world. Once the situation gets back to normal, we might see this happen again. To create awareness on this, a South Korean industrial designer, Paeng Min-wook (aged 28) has come up with a technological advancement gadget called ‘Third Eye’ for the Smartphone Zombies.
This gadget is a robotic eyeball which needs to be placed on the forehead. It helps on-the-go mobile users to avoid obstacles which come in their path. Whenever the user lowers head to look at the smartphone, the gadget’s translucent eyelid opens. If there is an object within 1-2 metres of the user, it starts beeping to alert so that the user can take appropriate action.
Paeng Min-wook demonstrates ‘Third Eye’ by walking on street in Seoul, South Korea.
Paeng Min-wook has done post graduation in innovation design engineering at the Royal College of Art and Imperial College, London. He says “This is the look of future mankind with three eyes”. He adds “As we cannot take our eyes off from smartphones, the extra eye will be needed in future.”
This innovative gadget uses a gyro sensor to measure the oblique angle of the user's neck. It also uses an ultrasonic sensor to calculate distance between the robotic eye and obstacles. These 2 sensors are linked to an open-source single-board microcontroller.
This gadget is not a solution as Paeng says “By presenting this satirical solution, I hope people would recognize the severity of their gadget addiction and look back at themselves”. Therefore, it will help people realize how bad things can go due to such a casual approach. Also, will increase focus on surroundings and other people’s behavior which might help in social well-being.
Should there be a gadget for this or should people use smart devices more appropriately while on the move? You can share your views on this below.

Is this invention really necessary? I mean why cannot we just walk with our eyes on the road. But for people who need to use their phone, this may work I guess.
