Taste of Dhaba

Many expensive restaurants use balanced spices and mild flavours to make it suitable for all age groups. Dhaba food is good if you like strong flavours. But Aloo gobhi and Kadhi is best in dhabas, restaurants can't match these.

At least here in Pune, dhabas near to the city are just like another restaurant in terms of food taste.

Especially in Maharashtra Dhaba is nothing but a highway/road side restaurant with low quality food, especially served to those interstate bus passengers. Drivers get their 'cut' for stopping by so you could imagine the quality of food. And these are not cheap by any means. 

Once while in Delhi my office friend insisted me to eat lunch at one of the dhaba and that was the day I became fan of 'Punjabi' cuisine. I still remember the taste of Rajma chawal and Aloo gobhi I eat at that dhaba.

 The food served at dhaba is close to what being prepared at home while the same food served in a restaurant is nothing but a commercial version. 

For food I will take a good dhaba over a good reataurant anyday. I am told that truckwala bhaisahabs are very picky about their food.hence dhabas that cater to truckwala bhaisahabs are the best. I still remember the tasty food I ate at a small dhaba on the outskirts of Sri Ganganagar in 2020. There were lots of trucks there and we had a jolly good time! Whenever I travel by road,I try to eat at a dhaba where lots of trucks are parked nearby.

The dead flies and cockroaches that are submerged / dissolved in the food are most likely the reason for the unusual flavor. 🫢🤪
