Mahakaal resides in our deeds, our aachran and the relative purity of our own thoughts.
In twenty years, infrastructure has improved and some facilities and organisation of things are much MUCH better now.
However the last time i accompanied others
(they decides that they HAD to come to Ujjain on mahashivratri!!).. only the wheelchair bound senior citizen was shown empathy by CRPF or other guards who took her inside from a special entry/exit.
Two (middle-aged) others too bowed to Mahakaal from near but far. As in not able to stand in the mad rush due to health and other reasons.
One person stayed put and got to go into the sanctum sanctorum, after waiting in line for long.
In recent times, other distant relatives who went.. could have the darshan and everything in under 35 minutes (on a non peak day).
I personally feel that in matters of hygiene, availability of proper facilities for community kitchens.. Ujjain could have done way better (now that we are almost in 2025).
But that is not directly related to the darshan experience.
To and fro private taxis are a rip-off, even from nearby cities.
(Maybe few years down the road, people will ve discussing about the metro connectivity. Already plans are afoot to connect nearby Indore with Ujjain.. via a metro line.)
