This means India is more developed than New York.

State governments are hit hard by lockdown. Taxes from liquor, fuel, realestate are the major sources. With lockdowns everywhere, tax on fuel has become the only source of revenue. The VAT on fuel is at minimum 30% across most states.
On a different note, as a direct tax payer, I’m happy whenever there is a hike in fuel price. Every consumer(direct/indirect) contributes to filling the deficit.
If you check the price graph of petrol prices from March 2020 to May 2021, you will only notice " Uprise ".. the price drops (if any) are very minimal and rare

Yes, it sounds appropriate to hike the petrol/diesel prices during lockdown because it is the major revenue for central/statement governments but the prices should drop once things settle (even a bit?) to ease out the extra burden on general public but this doesn’t happen
Pawri 🐾 , …. Hai to Mumkin hai!
This ll give people more reasons to stay indoors. Good.
india ko usa se bhi uper le gaye modi ji …. 🙏👍
Next target 5 trillion economy Doston..
Did the media care to compare the cost per meal, other apsects of cost of living in NY vs India? They comfortably ignore all the other things while blabbering about what they want.

Disclaimer: Just keeping it clear, I’m not favour of any government here. And these are just my opinions based on my understanding.
State/central may have spent more than what they got in the name of taxes during lockdown. So a mere increase just during this lockdown time may not balance the spends. So it may take time for the numbers to rebalance. And eventually we may see fuel under GST.
Frankly, even if the expenses are balanced, I don’t think they will reduce. As people are used to it, they will target to fill the other deficits that has been dragging for years/decades.
I’m not speaking against any central / particular state governments either
The link i have attached has the price graphs of almost all the metros

This is precisely what’s inappropriate/wrong here.
We never know where this extra revenue is being spent apart from few speculations.. (For one, i can think of “Central Vista” project initiation post March 2020 but there could be other genuine reasons/sources too for the centre and states)
What’s more evident here is the central/state governments trying to take advantage of the situation just like the many businesses operate ( Start charging more and more on a timely basis because there’s going to be a section of people believing that the hikes are happening to compensate the 2-3 months lockdown in 2020,2021 )
