Is Thomas Cook and IRCTC tour packs even worth it?

Is TC any good for international trips and IRCTC for local trips. I feel the prices are very high. For TC also GST is charged. Did anyone used the tour packages before what was you experience? better to travel by ourselves?

But I hear even after spending so much the experience is not good. I was wondering if anybody opt for tour operators.

Tour operators are for those who either have lots of money and no time to plan, book, etc on their own.
OR
We don't have ability/confidence to do these on their own.
OR
Wants complete peace of mind during the trip.
IMO, If it's self planned, then the cost will be 50% of what tour operators offer.
