The answer depends on how you define “benefits”. Your unused current/saved monthly credits will perish. The books that you have saved to your library will remain in your library. This is true for all books that you buy with credits or money. The member-only free books that you save in your library may not remain accessible after you quit your membership.

Q4. What’s the best way to “maximise” the benefits?
Tricky question. Depends a lot on your luck. In my case, it was a concoction of sheer luck and some strategy. Initially, I used my CRED rewards for 2 months of trial membership. Opted to pay Rs.2 via AMEX. Payment did not go through. Although the subscription was initially activated, error message started to popup asking me to revise payment. Meanwhile, upon retrying, the coupon code was no longer honoured and the payment gateway demanded Rs.199/-.

I called up the customer care. The guy was a Bengali and was very helpful. He had probably already been aware of the issue with AMEX. Without wasting any time he cancelled my suspended membership and asked me to start afresh: but not with CRED offer but with Amazon prime offer. The CRED coupon was spoilt.

He asked me to be online on a desktop. Here is where I used a twist. I used timesprime referral link instead of the regular sign up link for Amazon prime members.

TimesPrime + Amazon Prime gives you total 3 credits every month for 90 days. Amazon prime only gives you 2 credits monthly for 120 days. Not a major difference, IMO.

This time I was charged Rs.2 via a different CC. But, during the same call I raised the issue of my lost CRED coupon. He immediately responded by adding the free credits that I should have received from the CRED offer, making the total tally at 4 for the first 2 months each, followed by 3 credits for the third month.


You can try your luck. But, you could end up losing if your stars don’t align.

Same reason why we pay for zee5/sonyliv/voot/Hotstar etc etc.
And do not buy 2nd print books from foot paths.
Also not everybody can live for free, sometimes you know the content creators needs to be paid too.

Apart from that angle, audible lets you to try all their books and keep the ones which you like with your credit.
It has got the best experience for reading audio books on all platforms with continuity.

But honestly if you value your 2 ₹ more and do not want to try out a good service, then I won’t want to argue.

2 ₹ will be billed on 31-08 and you will get one credit. total 4 months you will get the benefit for 2 ₹ and 4 credits total you will get. Just remember to cancel after you get the 4 credits, if you want to stop the subscription. If you cancel earlier, you won’t get the 4 credits.
