I purchased memory card from snapdeal in 2012
My first ever online shopping was the chocolates of Dairy Milk which I bought to give in return to my sister on Raksha Bandhan.
As you can imagine from my name, I love tech and electronics.. Now there is a store called JDR microdevices.. It was located in california and I lived far away from it and at the time could not even imagine living in such a place as cost of living is sky high.. Local electronics were just over priced old model throwout junk.. JDR also had returns and opened items they sold cheaper.. They had a catalogue since web did not exist… Also in those days we had huge book catalogues of electronics items and I found this in there.. The magaine itself was only like 10 pages but ads took up over 100 pages.. all things like CB radios and HAM stuff etc..
So in like 1983 or so I ordered some computer stuff from there.. I also build protoboards so had to get part slike chips and wires etc from there.. Then I made a huge mistake and ended up in california and maxed out like 10 credit cards buying crap from this place.. JDR was not the only one, they had HUGE warehouses that would buy all the stuff when companies were liquidated.. I ended up with a large house full of junk and deep in debt.. I was addicted and could not withdraw.. It was very painful when I ran out of money to eat.. And decades later it cost even more than what I paid for the stuff to get rid of it..
Oh man I miss those days.. A starving student.. but I learnt all about networks like arcnets and ethernets and their OS etc from such things.. Dont ever leave an addict in a place with unlimited drugs..
Just as an example I got one of the first CD writers that came out and it cost over $1000 used and I was in heaven… The Kodak CD’s were used to store Kodac photos but could be repurposed to store data.. Imagine being able to store 650 Megs on it.. a floppy was 720k.. But the CD’s costs over $100 each.. Biggest mistake of my life.. And this was one of the cheaper items..
Just a note that it might be exciting but that runs out in a few weeks and then you wonder how you could spend a few months pay on such things.. Then came the ink jet printers.. I used to print out a lot of code and those dot matrix made a huge racket and my room mates were getting angry with me going screech screech all night long and the ink jets were quiet.. But they also cost like $900 a printer and the ink was like $50..
Kids should never be left unsupervised.. While my room mates were out hunting tale I was hunting for new tech stuff.. I was misled in life.. a huge huge mistake.. All those who look forward to go the US.. dont make the mistake I did.. Go party.. Its far far cheaper..
