In a LG top load (bought in the initial years of its launch, product shipped from Korea) nothing of the sort was used. Product got used in metro like cities with municipal tap water and once in 6-8 months cleaning of the water tanks in the high-rise building or the rowhouse type duplex.

After 16-17 years of use, in its final years the washerman probably got misused by the relatives or others who used it in the vacant apartment (often given to some relatives or others who visited that city and stayed in that premises).

Old style net/mesh .. lint-filter was there in that top load (LG) washerman and I think it was over 6.5kg or 7KG capacity.

Often tested the discharge water for debris or problematic things, but it was all good.

Had the washed and dried clothes often put in a litre or two of water and had the water tested for what all was there.
Again, there was not much issue of any sediment residue or any rash causing stuff in the washed clothes.

(Top load) Washer itself too never felt like it gave any smell or had scaling issues below the drum. But it is an assumption, based on observation.

Someone else in the close circle who used/use a Bosch frontload often also use the brand's own descaler (or whatever the service center people claim to be Bosh brand descaler).
But in recent years, once when their unit had to be taken apart, they mentioned there was substantial layered lime/salts stuck to some of the portions in which the main drum was housed.

<,br> And again in one of our properties, a LG side-load 6.5/7KG washer (No heat dryer) in use since 2014-2015 was initially regularly used without any descalwe but the elders there would run the (inverter, direct drive) machine empty on the full heat setting and cotton cycle.. using usual (powder) detergent.
They hoped it would 'clean' the drum and inner assembly.

Water was subsoil water and in later years sometimes municipal supplied tanker water was mixed with the boring water.

As recently as 2022-2023 the water inlet holes started getting clogged or it felt like water was coming OUT of the dispenser assembly.

Usual toothbrush and Parryware Glow, vinegar were used to try to get the water dispensing holes unclogged.
It did not help much.
(Vinegar or any of those metal cleaning agents were NEVER used to clean the drum or the rubber gasket.)

Then in 2023-2024, finally LG service personnel had to be called in. The technician was careful and knew his business. The water dispensing unit was unhoused and cleaned thoroughly (he was okay with the plastics being dipped in vinegar solution for a day and next day he came, used mild solution of Harpic with tooth brush).

He assembled everything back and it worked fine. No water spillage outside the dispenser.

But he suggested that for internals, it is better to use the descaler once in 3-3½ months, if machine is regularly in use. The 3-3½ months was in-line with the subsoil ground water source.

And indeed every time the descaler is used in the 'cleaning cycle' (about which the technician only told), there is considerably less chunks of debris, salt/lime deposits in the discharge pipe.

So perhaps in costlier products and especially if subsoil water is used, there is a good case of using descaler once every 90'95 cycles of use.

But no amount ofbdescalervused in the drum can save the inletbwater dispenser above the detergent/softner bay remain unclogged. Hard water would eventually have its effects on the water dispenser.

Even if Municipal water, descale should be done once in 3 months. Bosch descale liquid is good but is expensive.
